Earlier in May, Pradhan had announced reforms aimed at strengthening examination security and pledged a zero-tolerance policy against organized cheating networks. However, these assurances did little to quell public anger as students continued to demand political accountability for the incident.
Police Crackdown Intensified Tensions
Tensions escalated earlier this week when police used baton charges and tear gas to disperse demonstrators attempting to march toward Parliament. Reports indicated that dozens of students were injured during these clashes. The images of police confronting largely peaceful student protesters drew widespread criticism and intensified pressure on the government, with opposition parties accusing the administration of mishandling both the examination scandal and the subsequent protests.
Following Pradhan’s resignation, authorities restored mobile internet services around Jantar Mantar, which had been restricted for much of the week.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stated that those responsible for using force against students should face consequences and called on Prime Minister Modi to apologize for the police response during the protests. Celebrations Mark End of Historic Protest
Thousands of young demonstrators remained at Jantar Mantar throughout Saturday, singing the national anthem and celebrating what they described as a historic victory for student activism. Many participants expressed that the movement demonstrated that peaceful public pressure could lead to meaningful political change. Protester Tluanga Ralte, carrying a copy of the Indian Constitution, remarked that the outcome represented a victory for democratic values and challenged stereotypes about India’s younger generation.
