From Housewife to CEO: The Inspiring Journey of Anita Surani

A Life of Luxury

Anita Surani’s life in Dubai reads like a modern fairytale. With a stunning mansion located on the renowned Palm Jumeirah, adorned with 24-karat gold ceilings, and a stylish pink Mercedes G-Wagon for her daughter, she seems to have everything one could desire. Yet, beyond the opulence, Anita embodies the spirit of entrepreneurship, demonstrating that true wealth extends far beyond material possessions.

Humble Beginnings

Originally raised in a middle-class family, Anita moved to the United States as a student. While striving to make ends meet, she took on part-time jobs. It was during this challenging phase of her life that she met her husband, Moiz Khoja. While she worked at a jewelry store, he was busy cleaning restaurant floors. Their shared journey of struggle fostered a deep bond, ultimately leading to a powerful partnership.

Together, they embarked on an ambitious venture in retail technology. Starting with a modest phone kiosk in a mall, they grew their business into a retail empire boasting over 100 stores. "We were partners, friends, and then a couple,” Anita recalls, highlighting the foundation of their success.

Launching Xena Interiors

While Moiz focused on expanding their tech business, Anita turned her attention to her passion for interior design. With a degree in hand, she began practicing in the real estate sector until she felt fully prepared to strike out on her own. Partnering with an experienced colleague, she founded Xena Interiors in Dubai, turning her creative vision into a reality.

Initially, the competition in the market was fierce, compelling her to start with smaller projects. She meticulously built a portfolio, working on offices and apartments until she eventually expanded into luxurious villas and vibrant restaurants. Today, Xena Interiors has grown substantially, boasting a talented team of over 40 professionals, including architects, graphic designers, and engineers.

Motivation and Drive

Anita’s unwavering motivation stems from her daughter. She strives to show that women can balance various roles and achieve their dreams, a philosophy she imbued into her business by naming it after her daughter, Zena. Despite the financial comfort her family background provided, she approached her business with a clear sense of accountability.

Early on, Moiz established strict guidelines regarding finances. Anita was tasked with repaying the investment in her office and covering her employees’ salaries independently. This challenge fueled her determination, igniting her work ethic. "I enjoy money, and I work hard for it,” she asserts. The satisfaction of generating her own fortune is a driving force in her life.

Luxury Meets Hard Work

Anita’s luxurious lifestyle might suggest an easy path, but she emphasizes that her success is rooted in hard work and dedication. She has never relied on her family’s wealth to fund her business endeavors. Instead, she rolled up her sleeves, embracing the challenges that came with starting a new business in a competitive market. Her story serves as a testament to the power of perseverance and ambition, encouraging others to strive for their dreams regardless of their circumstances.

Through her journey, Anita Surani exemplifies that luxury is not just about possessions; it’s about the satisfaction of building something meaningful from the ground up.
