Celebrating Indigenous Heritage: The Museo sa Konsulado Series Opens Its 10th Edition

The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai is all set to kick off its 10th edition of the Museo sa Konsulado series on October 3, 2025. This exciting exhibit, part of the wider Labindalawa campaign, is titled Mukha ng Kultura and serves as a vibrant celebration of Filipino indigenous cultures. This year’s exhibition coincides with the observance of National Indigenous Peoples Month, making it all the more significant.

Spotlight on Larry Merciales

The exhibit showcases the artistic talents of Larry Merciales, an architect and artist whose work aims to highlight the dignity, resilience, and traditions of indigenous Filipino communities. Merciales will feature stunning pen-and-acrylic portraits that offer a visual narrative of the lives and struggles of these communities. His art captures not just faces, but the essence of Filipino culture, inviting viewers to engage with the rich tapestry of indigenous heritage.

Supporting the Cause

The exhibition is backed by the United Architects of the Philippines—Singapore Chapter, emphasizing the importance of community support in preserving and promoting Filipino culture abroad. Consul General Marford M. Angeles remarked, “The Labindalawa campaign is our collective expression of freedom in its many forms. Through this 10th installment of Museo sa Konsulado, we honor the heritage and identity of our indigenous communities.” Such endorsements lend credibility to the effort and underscore the responsibility that Filipinos have in cherishing their roots, no matter where they are in the world.

Event Details

Mukha ng Kultura will officially open at 2:30 p.m. at the consulate, making it a great opportunity for the public to engage with and appreciate the artworks. The portraits promise to serve as conversation starters about the complex narrative surrounding indigenous peoples in the Philippines.

The Artist’s Journey

Larry Merciales has a compelling backstory. Growing up as the youngest of twelve in Metro Manila, he pursued formal training in architecture at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. His professional journey has taken him through China and Singapore, and he is currently establishing his career in Dubai as a project architect and part-time professor. Merciales’ artwork has already gained recognition, having been exhibited in venues such as the National Commission for Culture and the Arts in Manila, the Cartoon Art Gallery in Dubai, and in Chengdu, China.

A Deeper Look at Mukha ng Kultura

Through Mukha ng Kultura, viewers are offered fresh perspectives on Filipino indigenous heritage. The portraits not only aim to celebrate the visual beauty but also to evoke a deeper understanding of the stories, struggles, and triumphs behind these cultures. This exhibit serves as a critical reminder of the diversity and depth of Filipino cultural identity, encouraging all Filipinos to reflect on their shared heritage.

Engaging with Filipino Artists Abroad

The Museo sa Konsulado series exemplifies how art can bridge distances and foster a sense of community, even among expatriates. By providing a platform for artists like Merciales, the consulate plays a pivotal role in promoting cultural awareness and appreciation among the Filipino diaspora in Dubai.

Thus, as the Philippine Consulate General prepares to unveil Mukha ng Kultura, it stands not just as an exhibition but as a multifaceted statement of unity, resilience, and celebration of Filipino indigenous culture. Whether you are part of the community or simply a lover of art, this event is expected to leave a lasting impression, inviting all to cherish and celebrate Filipino heritage.
