Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty met with Pekka Haavisto, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Sudan, on Monday to discuss the ongoing crisis in Sudan. The meeting focused on the latest developments in the situation and the efforts being made both regionally and internationally to de-escalate tensions and restore stability, as reported by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The discussions highlighted the necessity of respecting Sudan’s sovereignty while supporting initiatives aimed at de-escalation. Both officials underscored the importance of achieving a comprehensive political settlement to the crisis. They also addressed the urgent need for humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese population.

As the situation in Sudan continues to evolve, the dialogue between Egypt and the UN reflects a commitment to collaborative efforts in addressing the humanitarian and political challenges facing the country. The Egyptian Ministry’s statement emphasized the critical role of international cooperation in facilitating peace and stability in the region.

Haavisto’s visit comes amid heightened concerns over the humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has led to significant displacement and suffering among civilians. The discussions aim to foster a coordinated response to these challenges, ensuring that aid reaches those in need while working towards a sustainable resolution to the crisis.

Both parties reiterated their dedication to supporting the Sudanese people during this tumultuous period, with a focus on restoring calm and enabling the delivery of essential services and assistance. The outcome of these talks may influence future diplomatic efforts and humanitarian initiatives in the region.
