Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi convened a meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Industry Eng. Khaled Hashem to discuss the progress of the National Industrial Strategy 2026–2030. The meeting focused on enhancing Egypt’s industrial capabilities and integrating the nation into global value chains.
Review of the National Industrial Strategy
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, spokesman for the Presidency, reported that the meeting assessed the current status of the National Industrial Strategy. Minister Hashem outlined the Ministry of Industry’s Vision 2030, which aims to boost non-oil exports to USD 100 billion. This goal will be achieved through a comprehensive industrial strategy developed in collaboration with the private sector.
The strategy includes several key initiatives, such as the Industrial Map, the Productive Village initiative, and the revival of distressed factories. It also emphasizes legislative reforms, institutional development within the Ministry of Industry, supplier development, and the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Priority Industries and Local Manufacturing
Minister Hashem identified seven priority industries under the strategy: ready-made garments, textiles, food industries, pharmaceuticals, automotive manufacturing, and electrical equipment, engineering, and electronics.
President El-Sisi emphasized the need for each program’s implementation to be tied to specific timelines. He highlighted the importance of enhancing Egypt’s role as a regional industrial hub capable of accessing international markets.
The Minister of Industry also presented plans to deepen local manufacturing and facilitate technology transfer, particularly in the automotive sector. Eng. Hashem noted that this sector is crucial for attracting investment and fostering technological advancements.
Automotive Industry Development
The Minister confirmed that the government is committed to establishing Egypt as a regional hub for automotive manufacturing. He pointed to the National Automotive Industry Development Program as a vital component for attracting leading global automotive brands. President El-Sisi stressed the necessity of localizing the automotive industry and its components to create a robust industrial base that can compete both regionally and internationally. He also underscored the importance of expanding electric vehicle production to support the transition to a green economy.
Steel Industry Localization Efforts
President El-Sisi reviewed the roadmap for localizing the steel industry, including strategies to address existing challenges. He pointed out that expanding the localization of feeder industries for heavy industries is essential for strengthening domestic supply chains and reducing reliance on imports, thereby enhancing the national economy’s added value.
During the meeting, the spokesman noted that progress in various industrial projects and zones was also discussed, as these are foundational for advancing industrial production.
Renewable Energy and Industrial Initiatives
Minister Hashem explained that procedures for establishing industrial projects have been updated to include the increased use of renewable energy. He highlighted the “Sun of Industry” initiative, which aims to install solar power stations on the rooftops of approximately 7,000 factories across various governorates.
The Minister also addressed the Egyptian Initiative for African Industrial Integration, which aligns with Africa’s Agenda 2063. This initiative seeks to strengthen economic ties among African nations.
President El-Sisi emphasized the importance of leveraging opportunities in African markets and fostering strategic partnerships. He noted that regional industrial integration is crucial for enhancing intra-African trade and increasing the value of African resources.
Commitment to Implementation and Private Sector Involvement
In concluding the meeting, President El-Sisi reaffirmed the necessity of fully executing the plans and adhering to established timelines. He stressed the importance of digitalization in these efforts.
The President also called for vigorous efforts to ensure substantial private sector participation in Egypt’s manufacturing landscape. He urged immediate action to eliminate any barriers facing investors in the industrial sector. Additionally, he highlighted the critical need for vocational training and other measures to promote industrial growth.
