Dubai World Trade Centre: A Beacon of Economic Growth in 2024

The Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has once again proven its pivotal role in the global business landscape, as evidenced by its impressive performance in 2024. This iconic venue has become synonymous with innovation, connectivity, and economic vitality, and its latest results underscore its significance in bolstering Dubai’s economic framework.

Record-Breaking Attendance and Events

In 2024, DWTC welcomed over 2.65 million participants, marking a 7% increase from the previous year. This surge in attendance reflects the centre’s growing reputation as a premier destination for international business gatherings. The venue hosted a remarkable 378 exhibitions and events, a staggering 26% increase year-on-year. This expansion included 40 new additions to the events calendar, comprising 10 exhibitions, 17 conferences, and 13 association conventions.

The diversity of events attracted nearly 59,000 exhibiting companies, with an impressive 77% of these hailing from international markets. The Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) segment saw a significant boost, with participation rising from 107 events in 2023 to 135 in 2024. This growth is indicative of the increasing global confidence in Dubai’s business ecosystem, as highlighted by Helal Saeed Almarri, the director general of the Dubai World Trade Centre Authority. He noted that the achievements of 2024 reflect not just numerical growth but also the strengthening of Dubai’s position in the global market.

Highlights of Key Events

Among the standout events of 2024 was the KAOUN International, which expanded DWTC’s global reach through initiatives like GITEX AFRICA in Morocco and GITEX DIGI_HEALTH 5.0 Asia in Singapore. The healthcare sector emerged as a leader in MICE participation, drawing an impressive 465,000 attendees—a remarkable 69% increase from the previous year. Following closely were the food, hotel, and catering sectors, which attracted 283,000 attendees, marking a 25% rise.

The IT sector also saw a healthy increase, with 281,000 attendees, reflecting an 8% year-on-year growth. Major events such as The Baby Expo, Middle East Organic and Natural Products Expo, and the World Vape Show contributed significantly to the overall attendance figures. The Leisure, Sport, and Travel sector also thrived, with nearly 110,000 attendees, driven by popular events like the Arabian Travel Market and the Dubai International Boat Show.

A Strong Portfolio of Exhibitions

DWTC’s diverse portfolio of exhibitions showcased its ability to attract global participation across various industries. High-performing exhibitions such as The Big 5, Beauty World, WETEX, Automechanika, and Intersec highlighted the centre’s role as a hub for innovation and business networking. These events not only fostered commercial connections but also reinforced Dubai’s status as a leading global business destination.

Real Estate Developments and Collaborations

The growth of DWTC in 2024 extended beyond its events. The centre’s real estate arm collaborated with Emaar on a new residential project called Expo Living, further enhancing the area’s appeal. The asset management business reported near-full occupancy rates, with 99% occupancy in commercial spaces such as One Central, Sheikh Rashid, and the Convention Tower, while Expo Village boasted over 90% occupancy.

Additionally, the DWTC Authority Free Zone expanded its offerings by incorporating One Za’abeel, attracting 389 new businesses. This expansion underscores the strategic advantages of operating within the free zone, making it an attractive option for companies looking to establish a presence in Dubai.

Strategic Partnerships and Future Prospects

In a move to further enhance its global standing, DWTC partnered with Informa Group to create a global MICE entity. This collaboration is expected to leverage both organizations’ strengths, fostering innovation and expanding the reach of MICE events in Dubai and beyond.

As DWTC continues to break records and expand its influence, it remains a cornerstone of Dubai’s economic landscape, driving growth and fostering international connections. The centre’s commitment to excellence and innovation positions it as a leader in the global business arena, ensuring that Dubai remains at the forefront of international commerce.
