Dubai Launches “Fountains of Mercy” Initiative for Local Wildlife

Dubai Municipality has recently introduced a noteworthy initiative called the “Fountains of Mercy.” This project is set to install 50 dedicated fountains throughout the emirate, aimed at providing essential drinking water for birds and wildlife. This initiative is part of Dubai’s broader commitment to fostering environmental sustainability and protecting biodiversity, while promoting humane urban development based on principles of mercy and coexistence.

Aligning with Dubai’s Vision

The “Fountains of Mercy” project aligns closely with the humanitarian values espoused by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. It complements the mission of the Dubai Civility Committee, which strives to enhance the emirate’s aesthetic environment and improve its global image.

Officials involved in the project have highlighted its significance in creating a balanced urban environment. This initiative not only supports local wildlife but also contributes to a higher quality of life for residents by promoting harmony between urban development and nature.

Strategic Fountain Locations

The initiative plans to strategically place 25 fountains in urban areas, targeting local birds that frequent these spaces. The remaining 25 fountains will be situated in desert and rural areas, providing vital water sources for wild animals. Constructed using durable, high-quality materials, these fountains are designed to be sustainable and require minimal maintenance, adhering to international environmental best practices.

Supported by Community Generosity

A notable aspect of the project is its backing from a charitable endowment provided by a local benefactor in Dubai. This support emphasizes the community’s values of compassion and generosity, which play a crucial role in shaping the emirate’s development policies. This partnership exemplifies the increasing integration of humanitarian efforts with environmental conservation initiatives, showcasing a collective commitment to safeguarding Dubai’s natural heritage.

Year-Round Water Supply

One of the key features of the fountains is their capability to operate year-round, ensuring that birds and wildlife have access to water during the scorching summer months as well as the cooler winter season. To enhance sustainability, the fountains will be driven by solar energy and will utilize efficient operating systems. This approach not only meets environmental standards but also promotes responsible water usage throughout the emirate.

Conclusion

The launch of the “Fountains of Mercy” initiative marks a significant step in Dubai’s efforts to support local wildlife while reinforcing its deep-rooted values of mercy and coexistence. As this project unfolds, it stands to strengthen the connection between urban life and the natural environment, enriching the emirate’s ecological landscape for generations to come.
