Hatta Honey Festival: A Celebration of Local Heritage and Sustainable Tourism

Introduction to the Hatta Honey Festival

As part of the ongoing #HattaWinter initiative, Dubai Municipality is thrilled to announce the return of the highly anticipated Hatta Honey Festival. This vibrant event is dedicated to local honey production and showcases Hatta’s unique natural and rural heritage. The festival is taking place at Hatta Hall and will run until December 31, 2025, offering free admission to the public.

Goals of the Festival

The Hatta Honey Festival aims to position Hatta as a leading destination for eco- and agri-tourism, while also creating economic opportunities for national producers and small businesses. By integrating various aspects of production, education, retail, and entertainment into one cohesive experience, the festival supports sustainable rural development and enhances Hatta’s role in Dubai’s tourism and economic landscape.

What’s Happening at the Festival

This year’s festival features over 50 indoor booths from local beekeepers and honey producers, along with 10 outdoor booths showcasing retail concepts and family-run businesses. Visitors can also enjoy an array of amenities such as:

  • Outdoor Workshop Space: Engage in hands-on learning experiences.
  • Outdoor Majlis: A traditional space for gathering and discussion.
  • Indoor Lounge: Relax in a comfortable environment.
  • Live Performances: Experience cultural entertainment.
  • Children’s Activities: Designated areas to keep young visitors engaged.
  • Food and Beverage Trucks: A variety of culinary options to savor.

Voices from the Festival

Dr. Naseem Mohammed Rafee, CEO of the Environment, Health, and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, emphasizes the importance of the festival in achieving a balance between tradition and modernity. “The Hatta Honey Festival reflects Dubai Municipality’s commitment to supporting sustainable agri-tourism and empowering national producers through dedicated platforms that combine economic opportunity, quality assurance, and community engagement.”

Innovative Laboratory Demonstrations

One of the standout features of this year’s festival is the participation of the Dubai Central Laboratory. They will showcase an integrated laboratory platform equipped with cutting-edge technology for testing honey quality and safety. Among its innovations is the use of infrared technology for rapid testing that takes under one minute. This comprehensive framework includes up to 512 accredited tests, significantly enhancing product quality assurance and consumer safety.

Embracing Digital Transformation

Aligned with Dubai Municipality’s vision for digital innovation, the Dubai Central Laboratory will introduce an advanced model for sample reception. This model leverages smart technologies, allowing honey samples to be received via an automated robot, ensuring accurate and reliable testing processes. This not only enhances efficiency but also upholds the highest safety and quality standards.

Building a Digital Identity for Emirati Honey

In addition to the festival activities, an exciting announcement will take place regarding a project dedicated to documenting the quality of Emirati honey. This initiative aims to create a “laboratory fingerprint” and digital identity for local honey, allowing for the verification of its type, origin, and quality through scientific assessments. A cooperation agreement with the Hatta Traders Council will facilitate this groundbreaking undertaking, marking a first for the UAE.

A Family-Friendly Experience

The Hatta Honey Festival is designed to be a community-focused experience with something for everyone. Visitors can partake in interactive workshops, educational sessions, and live performances across various indoor and outdoor settings. This inclusive environment not only enhances the quality of life for attendees but also boosts community involvement.

Conclusion: Supporting Local Economy and Sustainable Investment

The festival plays a crucial role in the broader plan to develop the Hatta region. It aims to diversify the local economy, empower Emirati entrepreneurs, and generate sustainable investment opportunities in agriculture and small-scale industries, all while ensuring high standards of product quality and safety.

As the Hatta Honey Festival unfolds, it promises to be an exciting and enriching experience that celebrates local heritage and paves the way for a sustainable future.
