Dubai’s New Recreational Plazas: A Step Towards Enhanced Community Living

In a move that aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Dubai Municipality has unveiled new recreational plazas in Lehbab (1), Lehbab (2), and Nazwah. This initiative reflects the ongoing commitment to transform Dubai’s countryside and rural regions into attractive, distinctive spaces that enhance the quality of life for all residents.

Enhancing Community Spaces

The newly developed plazas are a vital addition to the expanding network of parks and recreational spaces across Dubai. These projects aim to foster environments that are not only visually appealing but also designed around the needs of the community. The focus is on providing experiences that positively impact well-being and promote an active lifestyle.

The development spans over 330,000 square feet and features modern sports courts that cater to users of all ages. The inclusion of contemporary outdoor fitness equipment and upgraded surfaces ensures that these spaces are suitable for various physical activities. Rubber flooring in children’s areas and thoughtfully designed seating zones make these plazas ideal for family outings and community gatherings. Additionally, landscaping efforts have significantly enhanced the visual appeal, while safety precautions were put in place to create secure, accessible public spaces.

A Vision for Sustainable Living

These projects are part of the broader Dubai Countryside and Rural Areas Development Master Plan, which strives to maintain the natural essence of these regions while offering recreational facilities. This initiative not only targets the immediate needs of citizens and residents but also supports the objectives outlined in the ‘Year of the Family’ initiative and the Dubai 2040 Parks and Afforestation Strategy. The latter aims to develop over 630 parks, contributing to an improved urban environment and reduced heat emissions, ultimately bolstering Dubai’s sustainability credentials.

His Excellency Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, the Director General of Dubai Municipality, emphasized the importance of enhancing community welfare through public and recreational spaces. He stated, “Our mission is to cultivate an urban ecosystem that prioritizes the needs of people and families.” The goal is to create accessible parks and public spaces that promote comfort and well-being, ensuring that citizens can enjoy integrated environments that enrich their everyday lives.

Addressing Community Needs

Bader Anwahi, the CEO of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality, pointed out that the development of the plazas in Lehbab and Nazwah was shaped by community aspirations. “Our focus is on providing varied sports and recreational facilities that encourage physical activity and foster social connections,” he explained. This initiative is a testament to Dubai Municipality’s dedication to delivering tailored projects that resonate with the unique characteristics of each area, ensuring that public spaces are both accessible and appealing.

Features of the Plazas

The enhancements at Lehbab (1) include two football pitches, a volleyball court, a basketball court, a running track, and outdoor fitness equipment. Additionally, there are two designated children’s play zones outfitted with safe rubber flooring. Similarly, Lehbab (2) offers a football pitch, volleyball and basketball courts, a running track equipped with fitness stations, and a children’s play area.

In Nazwah, comprehensive development work has transformed the area through ground leveling and the installation of specialized surfaces. Facilities include football, volleyball, and basketball courts alongside a running track and a dedicated children’s play area, rounding out the range of offerings.

Continued Development in Dubai’s Parks

Further expanding its commitment to community well-being, Dubai Municipality is in the process of developing Margham and Al Lisaili parks. These parks will feature facilities like football pitches, sand running tracks, landscaped seating areas, and advanced lighting systems, all monitored by smart surveillance cameras to enhance safety. The first phase already saw the inauguration of volleyball courts, demonstrating the ongoing effort to create comprehensive recreational environments.

The Dubai Countryside and Rural Areas Development Master Plan is aligned with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, showcasing a commitment to enhance community infrastructure through various initiatives designed to serve and uplift the quality of life for all residents.
