Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects Partners with Smiths Detection for Advanced Security Solutions at DXB

Dubai is once again making headlines in the aviation sector with a groundbreaking announcement from Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP), an autonomous entity linked to the Dubai Aviation City Corporation. They have formalized a contract with Smiths Detection to incorporate state-of-the-art checkpoint screening technologies throughout all terminals at Dubai International Airport (DXB), solidifying its commitment to security, efficiency, and passenger experience.

Cutting-Edge Technology on the Horizon

The multi-year contract will see the installation of HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX Model-S computed tomography scanners across Terminals 1, 2, and 3. These high-tech scanners are designed not only to enhance security measures but also to improve operational efficiency and streamline passenger flow.

One of the standout features of these scanners is their ability to produce high-resolution 3D images, which allow security personnel to better assess potential threats. Perhaps most notably, these systems enable travelers to keep their electronics and liquids within their bags during the screening process. This significant improvement not only helps in reducing processing times but also adds a layer of convenience for passengers.

Safety and Regulatory Assurance

Certified by prominent international regulatory entities such as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), the new screening systems are equipped with iCMORE automatic object recognition software. This capability elevates the detection standards implemented at DXB, ensuring that safety remains paramount while keeping the flow of passengers smooth.

The Future of Aviation in Dubai

The announcement came on the opening day of the Airport Show 2025, highlighting the city’s forward-thinking approach to aviation infrastructure. DAEP emphasizes that this initiative aligns with Dubai’s broader vision of creating a secure and future-ready airport environment. By integrating advanced technologies, Dubai reinforces its position as a global aviation leader, thereby strengthening its reputation as a hub for international travel.

Insights from Industry Leaders

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, an influential figure in Dubai’s aviation sector and President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, reaffirmed Dubai’s dedication to aviation excellence. He stated, “This project strengthens passenger safety, enhances the travel experience, and reinforces Dubai’s reputation as a global aviation hub.” His endorsement speaks volumes about the strategic importance of this technology deployment.

Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation, also highlighted the significance of collaborating with Smiths Detection. He noted that selecting such advanced technology showcases the commitment to smart infrastructure across Dubai’s airports. “It is an investment in operational efficiency and the safety of millions of travelers as we build the airports of the future,” Al Zaffin remarked, emphasizing the long-term vision behind this undertaking.

A Collaborative Effort

Tom Squier, Managing Director of Smiths Detection Middle East, expressed excitement about the partnership. He remarked, “Our advanced screening solutions will enhance detection efficiency and support Dubai’s vision for safe and smart air travel.” This collaboration is not just about installing new technology; it’s about creating a harmonious travel experience where safety and convenience coexist seamlessly.

Part of a Broader Strategy

The installation of these advanced scanners is just one aspect of Dubai’s comprehensive strategy for intelligent airport transformation. The focus is on leveraging technology to enhance the passenger experience while maintaining rigorous safety standards. The city continually seeks to innovate in a way that keeps pace with the evolving landscape of global travel, ensuring that Dubai International Airport remains at the forefront.

With these advancements, Dubai is not only prepared for the immediate future but is actively shaping what airports will look like in years to come—a nexus of security, efficiency, and traveler satisfaction.
