Celebrating Emirati Culinary Talent: The Launch of the Emirati Chefs Grant Programme

Introduction to the Emirati Chefs Grant Programme

The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority has recently wrapped up the inaugural Emirati Chefs Grant programme, designed to spotlight ambitious Emirati talent in the culinary arts. This initiative not only aims to elevate the skills of participants but also fosters a deeper understanding of food and the rich cultural narratives behind it. Conducted over three months in collaboration with the International Centre for Culinary Arts (ICCA Dubai), this programme seeks to promote authentic local cuisine while amplifying its global presence.

A Comprehensive Culinary Education

Throughout the first edition of the programme, participants engaged in various specialized culinary modules, culminating in diploma awards for six talented Emirati chefs: Noora Al Awadhi, Alia Al Ali, Asayel Al Marzouqi, Rashid Al Nuaimi, Huda Al Ghafli, and Mitha Al Ghafli. Under the guidance of ICCA Dubai experts, these chefs underwent rigorous training that covered foundational and advanced cooking techniques.

Hands-On Experience in Culinary Arts

Participants received hands-on experience, preparing a diverse selection of dishes ranging from appetizers to desserts. They learned to use state-of-the-art kitchen equipment, explored menu design, and gained critical insights into hospitality etiquette and food presentation. Additionally, the curriculum emphasized essential topics such as food safety, public health, and the managerial aspects necessary for efficient kitchen operations.

Future Horizon: The Second Edition Launch

Building on the success of the initial programme, Dubai Culture has announced the launch of the second edition set for November 2025. This phase aims to empower ten Emirati women chefs, each receiving a Diploma in Culinary Arts. Notable names among this cohort include Ayesha Khoory, Hamda Adil Abdulhamid Abdulla Alkhoori, and Shadha Alhosani, among others.

Supporting Innovative Culinary Projects

Shaima Rashed Al Suwaidi, CEO of the Arts, Design & Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, expressed her commitment to nurturing culinary talent. She highlighted how the Emirati Chefs Grant provides an invaluable platform for creative chefs to develop their abilities and experiment with a variety of dishes that merge Emirati, Arab, and global flavors.

“Through this grant, the Authority seeks to provide a unique platform that supports creative Emirati chefs,” Al Suwaidi noted. “It opens new horizons before them, encouraging innovative projects that push their culinary boundaries.”

The Cultural Significance of Food

Al Suwaidi emphasized the integral role of food in Emirati culture, serving as a medium through which local talent can convey the essence of their heritage. The distinctive dishes crafted by these chefs reflect the community’s values, traditions, and the spirit of generosity, hence showcasing the depth of Emirati cuisine.

ICCA’s Role in Shaping Future Chefs

Sunjeh Raja, Director & CEO of ICCA Dubai, spoke about the responsibility of nurturing homegrown talent in the UAE culinary scene. He underscored the importance of combining skill development with a strong sense of cultural identity.

“At ICCA, we take great pride in training a new generation of Emirati chefs,” Raja stated. “Our goal is to refine their skills while ensuring they remain rooted in their culinary heritage.”

Conclusion

Overall, the Emirati Chefs Grant programme marks a significant step forward in promoting Emirati culinary arts and supporting the next generation of chefs. Through dedicated training, empowering opportunities, and a deeper connection to culture, this initiative is set to redefine the culinary landscape in Dubai and beyond.
