Embracing Creativity: Dubai’s Third Makers’ Month
The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) is set to host the highly anticipated third Makers’ Month from April 26-27 at Earth Roastery in Al Quoz. This vibrant two-day festival is an incredible opportunity for practitioners from diverse disciplines to come together for panel discussions, talks, field visits, and hands-on workshops. The aim? To sharpen skills and promote collaboration between manufacturing and creative industries. Through this initiative, Dubai Culture reaffirms its commitment to fostering a dynamic production ecosystem and highlighting international best practices, all while cementing the emirate’s status as a global cultural hub.
Bridging Creativity and Industry
Khulood Khoory, the Director of the Projects & Events Department at Dubai Culture, emphasizes the festival’s role in bridging the gap between creativity and industry. By championing local manufacturing through strategic partnerships, Dubai Culture is cultivating the right environment for innovation to thrive. "We encourage exploring Al Quoz Creative Zone’s unique resources and investment opportunities," Khoory explains. This approach not only adds economic value but also strengthens Dubai’s cultural and creative sectors, ensuring they flourish.
Interactive Workshops and Notable Speakers
Over the two days, participants will have the chance to engage in an exciting lineup of interactive workshops, organized in collaboration with Make Works UAE and Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children. Attendees can look forward to learning from industry experts who will share invaluable insights on sustainability, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurial ventures. One highlight is the session titled ‘Product Design and Development in the Day and Age of AI,’ led by Tristan Pirouz and Joyce & Girls. Here, the role of artificial intelligence in transforming product design workflows will be unpacked, shedding light on future trends.
In another captivating session, ‘The Art of Craft & Sustainability,’ Lamis Alhashimy, Co-Founder of Palmade, will explore how artisans can contribute to the emirate’s thriving economy. The workshop titled ‘Crafting Success: The Art and Business of Bespoke Tailoring’, by Pawan and Ashish Ishwar from Knights & Lords, will reveal how a passion project in fashion evolved into a successful venture.
Entrepreneurship and Sustainability Insights
The focus on entrepreneurship continues with a talk led by Alhaan Ahmed, CEO and Co-Founder of ARDH. His session, ‘Designers as Entrepreneurs: Crafting Sustainable and Desirable Solutions for the Future,’ emphasizes the intersection of creativity and business, offering insights into innovative methodologies. Additionally, Lina Ghalib, founder of PlyPalm, will share her journey in creating an eco-friendly plywood alternative, encouraging attendees to think creatively about everyday items.

Ceramics Panel: Craft, Growth, and Community
The festival will also feature a dedicated ceramics panel titled ‘The Art and Business of Ceramics: Craft, Growth, and Community.’ This discussion will include notable figures such as Nessma Djhouri from Lutum Ceramics, Dr. Nina Heydemann from Maraya Art Center, and Zade Ismael of Slō Ceramics. Together, they will dive deep into balancing artistic innovation with commercial success and community involvement, shedding light on the vital role ceramics play in the creative landscape.
Hands-On Experiences and Guided Tours
Workshops aren’t the only hands-on opportunities; participants can take part in recycled papermaking sessions at Tashkeel or explore clay-building and ceramic painting at the Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children. These activities not only empower participants to unleash their creativity but also emphasize sustainable practices within the art and manufacturing sectors.
An exciting aspect of Makers’ Month is the ‘Manufacturing Exchange,’ coordinated by Mansi Bavishi from Make Works UAE, featuring manufacturers like Nikhil Krishnan and Mohammad Rasi from InSculp 3D. This session will highlight innovative advancements in 3D printing and bespoke glass, complemented by an exhibition showcasing natural, sustainable, and recycled materials.
Additionally, a guided bus tour organized by Make Works UAE will provide participants with an insider’s view of three local factories: a furniture manufacturer, a multipurpose production facility, and a printing house and design studio. This real-time exposure to the creative process will illustrate the technical expertise and craftsmanship that define the Al Quoz Creative Zone.
A Celebration of Creativity
With such a diverse range of events, discussions, and hands-on experiences, the third Makers’ Month promises to be a vibrant celebration of creativity in Dubai. From enlightening workshops to engaging panel discussions, attendees will have ample opportunities to expand their knowledge, network with industry leaders, and immerse themselves in the dynamic intersection of art and industry.
