Strolling through Bur Dubai today, it’s impossible not to notice the transformation of BurJuman Mall, a longstanding staple of the city’s retail scene. Since first opening its doors in 1991, BurJuman Mall has evolved into a vibrant, contemporary space, deeply reconnected to the community it has served for over 30 years.

Central to this evolution is the new brand campaign, Right in the Heart. This initiative encapsulates not just the mall’s geographical significance but also its commitment to fostering connection, discovery, and enriched everyday experiences for its visitors.

A Comprehensive Redevelopment Journey

The mall’s redevelopment, which kicked off in 2023, was not a simple facelift. It was deeply rooted in consumer insights and an understanding of contemporary shopping habits, dining preferences, and community engagement. This evolutionary process has been built on four key pillars: product offerings, retail mix, digital advancements, and strategic positioning, resulting in a modern super-regional destination appealing to residents, professionals, and families alike.

Significant investments have led to the makeover of more than 75,000 square meters of retail and public space. Improvements in walkability, streamlined traffic flow, realigned escalators, and modernized entrances have all been crucial to enhancing visitor experience. A new entrance, Entrance 5, now facilitates direct access to Level 1 from the Al Mankhool side, further optimizing movement throughout the mall. Even an underutilized staircase has been redesigned for clarity and accessibility, contributing to an overall intuitive and engaging atmosphere.

These changes have been reflected in performance metrics, which indicate an impressive surge in foot traffic and sales compared to the previous year, alongside extended dwell times and higher conversion rates.

Ghaith Shocair, CEO of BurJuman Mall, emphasized that this transformation is more than just physical; it’s a renewal of the mall’s essence. He stated, “Over the past years, we have redefined what it means to be a destination that brings people together, strengthening our connection with visitors, tenants, and partners.” As the mall continues to innovate, enhancing accessibility through a new metro entrance and an upcoming elevator at Entrance 3 highlights its focus on connectivity at every encounter.

The reimagined BurJuman Mall now offers a balanced mix of established global brands, exciting local concepts, and vibrant community spaces. Approximately 70 new brands, including Centrepoint, Puma, and Louis Philippe, have joined the lineup, boosting occupancy rates to nearly 90% and enhancing foot traffic significantly.

The dining experience has also undergone a transformation. The updated food court and The Deck—an outdoor terrace dining area—reflect Dubai’s growing desire for open, friendly environments filled with natural light and greenery, shifting the perception of food courts to lively urban hangouts.

Incorporating digital enhancements, the mall introduces smart features like ticketless paid parking, interactive directories, and digital gift cards, all designed to streamline and enhance the visitor’s journey.

Newly repurposed areas within the mall, such as B Hub and B Hive, have quickly become community focal points. B Hive, in particular, attracts around 10,000 visitors each month and boasts a remarkable Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 72%. Designed for collaboration and creativity, these spaces embody BurJuman’s transition toward experience-driven retail.
