Amanda Anisimova Achieves Key American Tennis Milestone with Victory Over Mirra Andreeva in Dubai

Date:

Amanda Anisimova staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Mirra Andreeva, securing her place in the semi-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships.

After a challenging start where she dropped the first set 6-2, Anisimova turned the match around, winning the next two sets with scores of 7-5 and 7-6.

The American player has overcome recent health issues and now looks forward to a semi-final clash with fellow American Jessica Pegula.

Anisimova’s victory over Andreeva not only stands as a personal achievement but also marks a milestone for American tennis.

With her latest victory, Anisimova has reached the semi-finals of a WTA 1000 event for the fourth time in her career. Previously, she achieved this milestone at the Canadian Open, Qatar Open, and China Open.

Significantly, according to OptaAce, Anisimova is the first American woman to reach her first four WTA 1000 semi-finals outside of the United States.

Anisimova’s impressive run has propelled her up the WTA rankings, following victories at the WTA 1000 events in Qatar and China in 2025.

Her journey includes a remarkable title win against Jelena Ostapenko in Doha, which marked her first Masters title, and a subsequent victory against Linda Noskova in Beijing.

The only setback in her WTA 1000 final appearances has been against Pegula, who defeated her in the previous year’s Canadian Open.

Anisimova Prepares for a Challenging Semi-Final Against Pegula

As the two Americans prepare to face off, they are situated closely on the WTA rankings, with Pegula holding the fifth position. Yet, Anisimova is still on the hunt for her first win against Pegula after four attempts on the WTA Tour.

Their most recent match resulted in Pegula extending her winning record against Anisimova during the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.

Anisimova has encountered Pegula multiple times on the circuit, including matches in Charleston, Cincinnati, and the Canadian Open final, but has yet to secure a victory.
