CBI Investigation into Trust Registration Misuse
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently pursuing a case against an individual in Aligarh, who allegedly registered a trust using the name of the Prime Minister without obtaining the necessary approvals. Allegations Against Jasim Mohammad
The accused, Jasim Mohammad, has found himself at the center of a legal controversy after allegedly establishing a trust titled ‘Centre for Narendra Modi Studies.’ According to information from the CBI, this trust was registered on January 25, 2021, under the Indian Trust Act of 1860. The complaint that sparked this investigation was lodged on September 28, 2024, by Mushtaq Ahmad Hussain, an advocate based in Aligarh. The CBI’s First Information Report (FIR), filed on October 24, states that the use of the Prime Minister’s name without necessary permissions constitutes a violation of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act of 1950. Specifically, Mohammad is charged under sections 3 and 5 of this Act, which addresses the misuse of government names and emblems.
CBI’s Investigative Steps
Following the complaint, the CBI initiated a preliminary inquiry, which corroborated the details mentioned. It was determined that the unauthorized use of the Prime Minister’s name could lead to legal repercussions, classified as a non-cognizable offense under section 5 of the same Act.
To proceed with the investigation, the CBI sought permission from the Rouse Avenue Court under section 174 of the BNSS, which pertains to police procedures in handling non-cognizable offenses. The court granted the CBI the authority to advance their investigation into this matter on October 14.
Separate Case of Impersonation and Fraud
In addition to the case against Jasim Mohammad, the CBI has also recently filed charges against another individual for impersonating a PMO official. This case involves a Delhi resident named P. Rama Rao, who allegedly posed as a deputy secretary at the PMO on multiple occasions to solicit various favors.
The FIR related to Rao’s case was filed on October 2 and reveals serious allegations of cheating, impersonation, and forgery. According to the report, on May 1, Rao utilized forged documents, presenting himself as a legitimate PMO official to seek benefits at the Tirumala Tirupati temple and to inquire about management quota seats in a private institution. This case highlights ongoing concerns regarding fraud aimed at exploiting government legitimacy for personal gain.
