Al Jazira faces Ajman as President’s Cup Round of 16 kicks off in Dubai

The Round of 16 in the President’s Cup kicks off today in Dubai, featuring a crucial match between Al Jazira and Ajman at 5 PM local time. This knockout stage will see six teams competing in three matches, with Al Jazira looking to capitalize on their strong league performance despite recent draws.

Al Jazira, the tournament’s runners-up, enter the match against Ajman after two consecutive draws in the Pro League, yet they remain at the top of the table with 114 points. Coach Cosmin Olariou expressed confidence in his team’s ability to secure a win, emphasizing the need for focus and discipline. “We respect Ajman and I know this will be a difficult match, but our objective is to win,” he stated, highlighting the importance of minimizing mistakes.

Simultaneously, Al Wasl will face Kalba at Zabeel Stadium, while defending champions Al Ain take on Shabab Al Ahli in the late match at 8 PM at Rashid Stadium. Al Ain’s coach, Vladimirivic, noted that their recent league defeat to Shabab Al Ahli would not influence the upcoming cup match, stressing the distinct nature of knockout competitions.

Ajman, currently seventh in the Pro League with nine points, aims to reset after a loss to Sharjah. Coach Goran Tufegdzic acknowledged the challenge posed by Al Jazira’s attacking prowess but remains optimistic about his team’s chances. “We need to be fully prepared and focused if we have to make it to the next round,” he said.

Ajman player Mohammed Nasser echoed this sentiment, stating, “President’s Cup is the most prestigious tournament in the UAE. We know Al Jazira are a strong team, but we have faith in ourselves.”

As the tournament progresses, the stakes are high for all teams involved, with each match promising intense competition and the potential for upsets. For more details on the tournament, visit Gulf Today.
