Huawei and HIPA conclude nationwide photography initiative showcasing UAE’s diversity

Published:

Huawei, in partnership with the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA), has successfully concluded “The UAE. A Closer Look.” This nationwide photography initiative aimed to showcase the rich diversity of the United Arab Emirates through the lenses of selected photographers across all seven emirates. The project not only highlighted the UAE’s cultural and natural heritage but also emphasized the role of technology in enhancing visual storytelling.

Over the course of the initiative, photographers embarked on a journey through Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Ajman, and Umm Al Quwain. Each location offered unique opportunities to engage with the UAE’s heritage, landscapes, and contemporary identity. HIPA played a crucial role in guiding the photographers, providing insights into composition and storytelling, which allowed them to capture the essence of each emirate while maintaining their individual artistic styles.

Exploring the UAE’s Rich Tapestry

The initiative encouraged participants to delve deeper into the details that define each emirate. Photographers documented their experiences using the HUAWEI Pura 90s Series, which features advanced imaging technology, including a 200 MP Ultra Large Sensor Telephoto Camera. This equipment allowed for high-quality captures that reflect the UAE’s diverse environments, from archaeological sites to modern architectural marvels.

In Abu Dhabi, for instance, photographers explored iconic landmarks such as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the Louvre Abu Dhabi, while in Dubai, they contrasted the historic Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood with the futuristic Museum of the Future. The project also highlighted the natural beauty of locations like the mangroves of Al Zorah and the mountain landscapes of Masfout, showcasing the UAE’s multifaceted identity.

Community and Cultural Impact

Marty Bian, Chief Marketing Officer of Huawei Consumer Business Group for the Middle East and Africa, emphasized the initiative’s goal of revealing the UAE’s visual diversity. He stated, “With this campaign, we wanted to give photographers the tools and creative space to explore the nation’s richness from their own perspectives.” This sentiment was echoed by H.E. Ali Khalifa Bin Thalith, Secretary General of HIPA, who noted that photography serves as a universal language that can rediscover and authentically present the UAE to the world.

The initiative also fostered collaboration among tourism partners across the emirates, enhancing local engagement and support for the photographers. H.E. Issam Kazim, CEO of the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, remarked on the importance of such initiatives in showcasing Dubai’s diverse offerings and enhancing its global visibility.

A Lasting Visual Legacy

The culmination of “The UAE. A Closer Look.” has resulted in a rich collection of images that not only document the UAE’s heritage and contemporary life but also invite viewers to appreciate the beauty and diversity of the nation. As the project concludes, it leaves behind a visual legacy that encourages ongoing exploration and appreciation of the UAE’s unique character.
