Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the addition of four new fourth-generation traditional abras to its marine transport fleet, enhancing the emirate’s marine transport network. This initiative aims to improve operational efficiency and passenger experience, integrating marine transport more effectively with other transport options across Dubai.
The new abras, developed according to the latest technical and safety specifications, can accommodate 24 passengers each. They feature upgraded seating and flooring designs, optimized interior space, and designated areas to enhance inclusivity and accessibility. Khalaf Belghuzooz Al Zarooni, Director of Marine Transport at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, emphasized that these additions are part of ongoing efforts to enhance marine transport services, stating that they will provide a “more comfortable and safer passenger travel experience.”
Equipped with modern technologies, the new abras include digital screens that display real-time information and safety content, along with electronic destination boards, marking a first for this generation of abras. These advancements are designed to improve operational clarity for passengers and boost overall customer satisfaction.
The integration of these new vessels is expected to not only enhance the appeal of marine transport but also contribute to a more cohesive transport network within Dubai, aligning with the city’s broader goals of improving public transport accessibility and efficiency.
