Jaguar has officially unveiled the Type 01, its most powerful electric vehicle (EV) to date, which is set to begin accepting orders in early 2027. This four-door grand tourer is a production version of the controversial Type 00 concept, boasting a remarkable 1,016 horsepower and a range of up to 400 miles, making it a significant entry in the luxury EV market.
Despite the departure of the design chief responsible for the Type 00’s aesthetic, the final design of the Type 01 retains much of its predecessor’s striking features. The vehicle showcases a low-slung silhouette, an extended side profile, and large 23-inch wheels, which contribute to its aggressive stance. However, it will not be available in the vibrant Miami pink color seen in the concept.
Interior Features and Technology
The interior of the Type 01 is designed with luxury in mind, featuring leather and brass detailing throughout. A standout element is the 24-inch OLED display positioned behind the steering wheel, complemented by two additional 7-inch screens integrated into the central console. These screens provide controls for climate, audio, and seating, enhancing the user experience. Notably, the absence of a traditional rear window is addressed by a display that emerges from the “panoramic soundbar,” showing a feed from a rear-facing camera.
Performance Specifications
Under the hood, the Type 01 is powered by three electric motors—one at the front and two at the rear—delivering a staggering 1,365Nm of torque. This configuration allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.2 seconds, reaching 112 mph in an additional 4 seconds. The 118kWh battery supports rapid charging capabilities, enabling drivers to regain 200 miles of range in approximately 13 minutes using 350kW DC charging.
Market Position and Availability
Orders for the Type 01 are anticipated to open in early 2027, with deliveries expected in the latter half of that year. While full pricing details have yet to be disclosed, Jaguar has indicated that one variant will start at $130,500, inviting potential buyers to register their interest.
