Sharjah Police Strengthens Safety Measures for 2026–2027 Academic Year
Sharjah Police has unveiled a comprehensive plan to ensure the safety and security of students as the 2026–2027 academic year approaches. This initiative, which encompasses traffic management, community engagement, and media campaigns, aims to facilitate a smooth transition back to school for students, while also safeguarding road users.
The announcement was made during a meeting led by Major General Ibrahim Musabah Al Ajel, the Director-General of the General Department of Comprehensive Police Stations. Key attendees included Major General Staff Omar Al Ghazal Al Shamsi, Director-General of the General Department of Operations and Security Support, and Brigadier Faisal bin Nassar, Director-General of the General Department of Community Prevention and Protection. The meeting focused on operational readiness and the coordination required among various departments and strategic partners to ensure a secure environment for students.
Major General Al Ajel emphasized that student safety is a paramount concern for Sharjah Police. He highlighted that the plan is built on proactive coordination and the integration of responsibilities among relevant departments and partners, aimed at meeting the safety needs of students, parents, and educational staff.
Increased Patrols Around Schools
As part of the safety initiative, the Traffic and Patrols Directorate will enhance its presence around schools by increasing patrols at critical locations, roads, and intersections. Officers will be tasked with regulating vehicle movement during peak hours to alleviate congestion and ensure a smooth traffic flow.
The Operations Centre Department will also bolster its operational capabilities by refining its system for receiving reports and monitoring real-time developments. This enhancement will facilitate swift responses to incidents and reports during the back-to-school period.
School Bus Inspections
The Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department will intensify inspections of school buses to ensure compliance with safety and security standards. In addition to these inspections, awareness programs will be implemented for drivers to reinforce adherence to safe transportation procedures for students.
The Community Security Department plans to conduct a series of school visits, welcoming students at the start of the academic year and delivering lectures aimed at promoting safety, positive behavior, and the values of responsibility and cooperation among students.
‘Our First Lesson is Safety’ Campaign
The Security Media Department will launch the “Our First Lesson is Safety” campaign as part of a broader media strategy targeting students, parents, and road users. This campaign will disseminate a variety of awareness content through Sharjah Police’s digital platforms and will include media coverage of related programs and initiatives.
The goal of the campaign is to broaden the reach of safety messages across the community and to enhance awareness of safe practices and behaviors throughout the academic year. This initiative is supported by strategic partnerships with the Sharjah Private Education Authority through the “Ma’man” service, which enables school bus drivers and supervisors to send emergency reports directly to the Operations Centre with the press of a button. This system allows for immediate location identification of the bus, ensuring a rapid response from the nearest patrol unit.
Sharjah Police has urged parents, drivers, and road users to cooperate with field teams and adhere to traffic regulations around schools. In case of emergencies, the public is advised to call 999, while non-emergency inquiries can be directed to 901.
The police underscored that ensuring student safety is a collective responsibility, and that responsible road behavior is essential for maintaining a safe and stable school environment for all.
