Dubai Municipality Launches AED80 Million Dubai Creek Lights Project to Transform Historic Waterfront into a World-Class Nighttime Destination
Dubai Municipality has initiated the Dubai Creek Lights project under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai. This ambitious AED80 million initiative aims to revitalize the historic heart of Dubai after dark by creating an integrated visual experience that spans eight kilometers along Dubai Creek.
The project is designed to enhance the area’s historical, architectural, and cultural identity, positioning it as a premier nighttime destination. It is part of the municipality’s ongoing efforts to improve urban landmarks and public spaces, thereby enhancing the quality of life and reinforcing Dubai’s reputation as a leading global city for living, working, and visiting. Enhancing Urban Experience
The Dubai Creek Lights project follows Dubai’s recognition as the World’s Most Beautiful City at Night for 2026, a title awarded based on a global study evaluating criteria such as safety, nighttime urban experience quality, diversity of evening attractions, dedicated public spaces, and visual appeal.
This initiative reflects Dubai’s commitment to developing innovative urban experiences that enrich the lives of residents and visitors alike. The project will feature over 5,000 lighting units visible from more than 1,500 feet above ground level, covering six key areas: Creek Quay, the Creek Promenade at the Gold Souq, the Creek entrance at Infinity Bridge, Al Shindagha Historic District, Bur Dubai Souq, and Al Seef Marina.
An advanced lighting system will enhance the visual identity of each area, emphasizing the unique characteristics of the Creek’s waterfronts, historic districts, traditional markets, and architectural landmarks.
Sustainable Lighting Solutions
The project incorporates sustainable lighting solutions aimed at minimizing environmental impacts on marine life. This approach balances the enhancement of the urban landscape with the protection of the Creek’s natural ecosystem.
Upgrades will also be made to the lighting of promenades, Creek entrances, building façades, and waterfront walkways.
