Emirates Delivers Over 64 Million Chocolates Annually, Elevating In-Flight Dining Experience
Dubai: On World Chocolate Day, Emirates has unveiled the intricate processes behind its extensive chocolate offerings, showcasing how the airline sources, selects, crafts, and serves millions of chocolates and desserts to passengers globally each year. Regardless of the cabin class—Economy, Premium Economy, Business, or First—travelers can anticipate thoughtfully curated chocolate experiences throughout their flights.
Craftsmanship and Global Inspiration Behind Emirates Chocolates
Emirates serves over 64 million pieces of premium chocolate annually, marking an increase of 4 million from the previous year. Additionally, the airline crafts approximately 26 million chocolate desserts across all cabin classes. From rich chocolate mousse cakes in Economy Class to sophisticated plated desserts in First Class, chocolate has become a highlight of the Emirates dining experience.
The airline’s operations are extensive, loading around 750,000 kilograms of luxury chocolate giveaways from premium suppliers onto its aircraft each year. Approximately 260,000 kilograms of various chocolate ingredients are utilized to create handcrafted desserts for passengers traveling across the airline’s international routes.
Emirates collaborates with renowned chocolatiers and premium chocolate manufacturers to ensure a diverse range of flavors and textures. Cocoa is sourced from esteemed growing regions in South America and Africa. Each supplier is chosen not only for quality and craftsmanship but also for their commitment to responsible sourcing and sustainable production practices.
Tailored Chocolate Selections for Diverse Destinations
The culinary design team at Emirates creates chocolate desserts tailored to specific destinations. Instead of offering uniform flavors worldwide, the team develops recipes inspired by regional tastes and seasonal ingredients. For example, Mediterranean routes may feature chocolate paired with fresh berries or stone fruits, while Asian destinations inspire combinations with tropical fruits, yuzu, or matcha. In the Middle East, pistachio remains a favored flavor pairing, influencing many of Emirates’ signature chocolate creations.
The airline emphasizes that its chocolate desserts are crafted with the destination in mind. The culinary team considers the flavors that resonate with customers in different regions, ensuring that the chocolate experiences are both familiar and globally inspired.
A dedicated team of 250 pastry and bakery chefs produces over 120 different chocolate desserts annually across all cabin classes, adapting menus to reflect seasonal ingredients and customer preferences. Emirates has observed a 5% year-on-year growth in chocolate consumption, particularly in richer dark chocolate varieties. Salted caramel remains a popular flavor pairing across the dessert collection.
The Chocolate Experience Begins Before Take-Off
The Emirates chocolate experience extends beyond the aircraft, reaching the airline’s premium airport lounges. First and Business Class customers can indulge in a rotating selection of curated chocolate desserts and premium confectionery before their flights. Current highlights include an intense Chocolate Cake, a Banana and Yuzu Cake featuring Valrhona’s Hukambi 53% dark milk chocolate, and the Royal Chocolate Mousse Cake, among others.
Distinctive Chocolate Experiences Across Cabin Classes
Each cabin class offers a unique chocolate experience, carefully designed to enhance the overall dining journey. Economy Class passengers can savor decadent desserts such as the Triple Chocolate Mousse Cake with chocolate sauce and caramel curls. Premium Economy travelers enjoy elevated creations like the Chocolate & Pistachio Mousse Cake with apricot curd.
Business Class customers are treated to refined desserts, including the Chocolate Entremet with cocoa glaze, dark chocolate soil, and gold raspberry, complemented by a curated selection of premium chocolates from UAE chocolatier Coco Jalila, celebrating locally crafted flavors.
First Class passengers experience an even higher level of indulgence with elegantly plated desserts, such as the intense Chocolate Cake with sponge, dulcey soil, and chocolate hazelnut sauce. The luxury chocolate selection rotates every four months, featuring various top chocolatiers and flavor profiles throughout the year, allowing frequent flyers to discover new delights on each journey. Current brands onboard include Valrhona from France and Canonica and Neuhaus from Belgium.
