Emirates Launches Third Daily Dubai–Nairobi Flight, Strengthening Global Connectivity and Cargo Capacity

New Flight Enhances Connectivity

Dubai: Emirates Airlines has inaugurated its third daily flight between Dubai and Nairobi, marking a significant milestone in enhancing global connectivity. The inaugural flight, EK717, landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport just after 5 AM on July 1, 2026. With this addition, Emirates now operates 21 weekly flights on the Dubai–Nairobi route, bolstering Kenya’s tourism and trade ambitions.

Optimized Scheduling for Travelers

The new EK717 flight is strategically scheduled to depart Dubai at 1:20 AM and arrive in Nairobi at 5:25 AM. This timing facilitates improved connections from major U.S. gateways and key European destinations. The return flight, EK718, leaves Nairobi at 7:10 AM and arrives back in Dubai at 1:15 PM, providing seamless onward connections to various European cities, including the UK, France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, and Portugal.

The introduction of this morning flight enhances the travel experience for international tourists, allowing them more time to reach their final destinations, such as national parks and coastal resorts. Business travelers also benefit, as the early departure enables same-day connections to major commercial centers like London and Paris.

Key Stakeholder Support

Christophe Leloup, Emirates’ Country Manager for Kenya, welcomed the flight alongside H.E. Dr. Salim Ibrahim Bin Ahmed Mohammed Alnaqbi, UAE Ambassador to Kenya; Teresia Mbaika, Principal Secretary of the State Department for Aviation and Aerospace Development; and Ambassador (Professor) Julius K. Bitok, CBS, Principal Secretary of the State Department for Tourism. This collaborative effort underscores the significance of the new service.

Leloup emphasized that Kenya has been a vital destination for Emirates for three decades. He noted that the third daily service reflects the strength of the relationship between the airline and the country, enhancing connectivity for travelers from Europe, North America, and beyond. He described the flight as an investment in a market that Emirates understands well, reinforcing Kenya’s role as a regional and global gateway.

Historical Context

Emirates first launched its flight to Nairobi in 1995 and has since transported over six million passengers to and from the country. The airline connects Kenya to more than 138 global destinations via Dubai, highlighting its strategic importance in the region.

Teresia Mbaika remarked on the launch as a strong endorsement of Kenya’s aviation, tourism, and trade sectors. She expressed optimism about the ongoing modernization of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), which aims to enhance efficiency and passenger experience.

Enhancing Regional Connectivity

In 2023, Emirates signed an interline agreement with Kenya Airways, allowing over 31,000 passengers to travel seamlessly across both networks to destinations such as Rwanda, Kilimanjaro, and Mozambique. The new daily flight offers additional options for regional onward travel, further enhancing connectivity across Africa.

The increased frequency also boosts cargo capacity by 280 tonnes per week. This is particularly beneficial for Kenya’s flower exporters and fresh produce sector, as the early morning departure enables quicker deliveries to markets in Europe and the Gulf, ensuring product freshness. Combined with Emirates SkyCargo’s three weekly freighter services to Nairobi, the airline now transports over 1,100 tonnes of goods to and from Kenya each week.

Broader Economic Implications

Earlier this year, Kenya and the UAE signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which strengthens ties beyond aviation. Kenya aims to attract five million international tourists by 2030, a goal that relies heavily on improved accessibility from key markets. The expanded services from Emirates are crucial in supporting this ambition.

Ambassador (Professor) Julius K. Bitok highlighted that enhanced air connectivity is vital for the movement of people, goods, and services, facilitating greater exposure to Kenya’s diverse offerings. He noted that the third daily service simplifies travel for visitors eager to experience the country’s wildlife, coastline, culture, and hospitality.

June Chepkemei, Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Tourism Board, added that strong international connectivity is essential for Kenya’s ambitious tourism growth. The new Emirates flight will improve access for visitors from key global markets, supporting efforts to expand tourism, create jobs, and generate greater economic value across the nation.
