Dubai Launches DEWA International to Strengthen Global Energy Infrastructure

DUBAI: H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, announced the launch of ‘DEWA International,’ a wholly owned independent subsidiary of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). The announcement was made during an event held at Al Shera’a, DEWA’s new headquarters, and aims to expand Dubai’s energy and water infrastructure model to international markets.

Key Developments in Global Energy Initiatives

The establishment of DEWA International is designed to facilitate the development of both conventional and clean energy projects worldwide. This initiative aligns with Dubai’s strategic vision to export its successful energy and water management practices globally. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, emphasized the importance of this venture, stating that it is a timely response to the growing global demand for energy solutions.

The launch event was attended by notable figures, including Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure; Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications; and Marwan bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality. The presence of these officials underscores the significance of this initiative in the broader context of Dubai’s economic and infrastructural ambitions.

Strategic Vision and Future Goals

H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum highlighted that Dubai has become a global benchmark for achievement and rapid development, largely due to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. He noted that DEWA International represents a strategic step towards extending Dubai’s successful model to global markets, thereby enhancing its role as a leader in energy, water, sustainability, and digital transformation.

Al Tayer remarked on the foundational capabilities that DEWA has established, which are now being taken to the global stage. He stated that the organization embodies Dubai’s success story, contributing significantly to the emirate’s growth through performance and efficiency. DEWA currently ranks first globally in 13 key utility performance indicators and has recorded substantial revenues, with AED 32.8 billion in 2025 and a net profit after tax of AED 9.06 billion.

Advancements in Energy Technology and Infrastructure

DEWA has mastered the entire value chain of energy production, from generation to distribution and project management. The organization has also made significant investments in solar energy, particularly through the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is recognized as the largest single-site solar park globally. This initiative serves as a benchmark for renewable energy deployment and has attracted substantial international investment.

Al Tayer emphasized the importance of integrating advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, into DEWA’s operations. This integration positions the organization to meet the anticipated global demand for energy and water infrastructure, projected to exceed USD 20 trillion by 2035. The focus on energy security and sustainability is expected to create significant opportunities for partnerships capable of executing large-scale projects efficiently.

Future Expansion and Global Partnerships

Looking ahead, DEWA International plans to pursue global opportunities based on value, partnerships, and strategic alignment. The expansion will initially target markets where DEWA has established relationships, gradually building a global portfolio that encompasses both conventional and renewable energy technologies. Al Tayer confirmed that DEWA will leverage its full capabilities, including development expertise and operational excellence, to ensure successful project execution in new markets.

The establishment of DEWA International marks a pivotal moment in Dubai’s journey towards becoming a global leader in energy infrastructure development. With work already underway to identify projects and establish partnerships, the organization is poised to make a significant impact on the international energy landscape.
