UAE Directive Accelerates 50% Conversion of Government Operations to Agentic AI in Two Years, Says Al Gergawi
DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates is poised to embark on a transformative journey in government operations, with a strategic directive aimed at converting 50% of federal government functions to Agentic AI models within the next two years. This initiative was announced by Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the National Committee for the Agentic AI Project, during a workshop held in Dubai.
The workshop, organized by the Presidential Court and the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, saw participation from 600 employees across both entities. This event marks a significant step in the UAE Government’s national project to enhance public services, policies, and procedures through advanced technology.
A New Era of Government Efficiency
Al Gergawi emphasized that the integration of Agentic AI represents a pivotal moment in the evolution of government operations. He stated that this initiative is designed to enhance efficiency, productivity, and the overall quality of services provided to the public. Launch of the “Top 3 AI Agents Award”
In conjunction with this initiative, Al Gergawi announced the introduction of the “Top 3 AI Agents Award” within the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs. This award aims to incentivize innovation and recognize the development of AI agents that can deliver measurable impacts across various government sectors.
Haitham Al Rais, Secretary-General of the National Committee for the Agentic AI Project, presented a detailed transformation plan aimed at converting 75% of the ministry’s operations and services to Agentic AI models. This plan focuses on improving operational efficiency, enhancing output quality, and allowing employees to engage in higher-value tasks.
Key Objectives and Implementation Stages
The initiative outlines several key objectives, including accelerating task completion, enhancing information reliability, and supporting evidence-based decision-making. The implementation will occur in four stages: assessment and readiness, capability building, pilot deployment, and the full-scale rollout of specialized AI agents.
Shamsa Jaber Al Falasi, Executive Director of Transformation and Development at the Presidential Court, participated in a session titled “Thinking Beyond Human Limits.” She highlighted the importance of mindset change in achieving real transformation, emphasizing that it involves expanding the capacity for better decision-making.
Al Falasi discussed how Agentic AI can transition government employees from mere tool users to system drivers, enabling institutions to create smarter solutions and leverage existing data more effectively. She also outlined various initiatives at the Presidential Court, including the establishment of a sovereign AI technical infrastructure and the Diwan GPT platform, which serves as a secure AI environment.
Accelerating the Shift to Agentic AI
Al Falasi conveyed directives from His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, aimed at expediting the transition to Agentic AI. These directives include converting 75% of the Presidential Court’s services to AI-powered models within the next two years and launching its own Top 3 AI Agents Award to encourage innovation among employees.
A panel discussion featured prominent figures, including Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence; Maryam bint Ahmed Al Hammadi, Minister of State and Secretary-General of the Cabinet; and Huda Al Hashimi, Assistant Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Strategy. The panelists shared insights on the practical application of artificial intelligence in government settings and the critical shift from experimentation to full institutional adoption.
Commitment to Upskilling Government Employees
Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and the Future, emphasized the government’s commitment to upskilling 80,000 federal employees in Agentic AI tools and solutions. She affirmed that the integration of Agentic AI will foster new working models where human employees and AI agents collaborate effectively, enhancing productivity and service quality.
The workshop concluded with seven specialized sessions on Agentic AI, conducted in partnership with leading global technology firms and the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence. These sessions focused on accelerating the adoption of Agentic AI, designing tailored AI agents for government needs, and equipping employees with the necessary skills to drive this transformation.
