L’Oréal Middle East Strengthens Commitment to Sustainability with UAE Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge

Key Developments at the L’Oréal For the Future Summit

Dubai, UAE – L’Oréal Middle East convened the L’Oréal For the Future Summit at its newly renovated Dubai office, uniting government officials, sustainability experts, retail partners, and industry leaders. This event marked a significant milestone in L’Oréal’s commitment to sustainability, highlighted by the signing of the UAE Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.

The UAE plays a pivotal role in L’Oréal’s sustainability strategy, serving as the regional headquarters and a leader in the Gulf’s green transformation. The initiatives launched here aim to demonstrate that sustainable beauty can be both accessible and commercially viable.

A Sustainable Workspace

The Summit took place in L’Oréal Middle East’s redesigned Dubai office, which embodies the group’s environmental commitments. The facility incorporates energy-efficient measures and sustainable practices, showcasing the L’Oréal For the Future program in action. Every design element, from materials to energy systems, reflects the global standards upheld by the company.

Commitment to Climate Action

During the Summit, L’Oréal Middle East formalized its commitment to sustainability by signing the UAE Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge in the presence of Eng. Aisha Mohamed Al Abdooli, Director of the Green Development & Environmental Affairs Department at the Ministry. This agreement aligns L’Oréal with the UAE’s decarbonization efforts and its Net Zero 2050 Strategy. The pledge signifies L’Oréal’s dedication to transparent and measurable climate action, moving beyond voluntary targets to active participation in the UAE’s environmental governance framework.

L’Oréal has a strong global sustainability record, being the only company to receive a triple-A rating from the CDP for ten consecutive years. This recognition underscores its leadership in combating climate change, protecting forests, and conserving water resources. Currently, all of L’Oréal’s sites in South Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East, and North Africa operate on renewable energy, reflecting a broader global trend where 65% of ingredients are now biobased or sourced from abundant minerals.

Advancing Circular Retail

The Summit also spotlighted L’Oréal’s efforts to integrate circularity into the daily lives of UAE consumers. Building on a successful partnership with BinSina Pharmacy, L’Oréal announced plans for additional strategic retail alliances. These collaborations will further establish the UAE as a testing ground for sustainable packaging and supply chain solutions.

Refillable beauty products are now prominently featured across all of L’Oréal’s categories, including makeup, skincare, haircare, and fragrance. The offerings encompass luxury brands such as Kiehl’s, Prada, and YSL Beauty, as well as dermatological brands like La Roche-Posay and CeraVe. The environmental benefits are significant; for instance, the Prada Paradoxe refillable product reduces material use by 44% in glass, 67% in plastic, 100% in metals, and 61% in cardboard compared to standard formats.

To minimize its environmental impact at the point of sale, L’Oréal has ensured that 100% of its Point-of-Sale Materials (POSM) are eco-designed. The company is actively collaborating with suppliers to measure, report, and optimize CO2 emissions.

Technology for Inclusive Beauty

In addition to environmental initiatives, the Summit emphasized L’Oréal’s commitment to social inclusion. L’Oréal Middle East announced the donation of over 30 Lancôme HAPTA devices to the Al Noor Training Centre. HAPTA is the world’s first handheld, computerized makeup applicator, designed to assist individuals with hand-motion disorders, arthritis, Huntington’s Disease, and stroke-related challenges.

The device employs advanced sensors and motion-stabilizing technology, adapting to the user’s position to facilitate makeup application for those with limited mobility. This innovation aims to make beauty more accessible and empower self-expression for all individuals.

Laurent Duffier, Managing Director of L’Oréal Middle East, stated that signing the UAE Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge demonstrates the company’s commitment to contributing to the UAE’s sustainability agenda. He emphasized that the ongoing expansion of circular retail and refillable options will make sustainable beauty choices more accessible to consumers throughout the UAE.
