Dubai Tourism Sector Unites to Strengthen Growth and Global Competitiveness Amid D33 Agenda

Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) held its biannual City Briefing on June 3, 2026, at the Dubai Opera, gathering over 1,700 leaders from various sectors, including tourism, aviation, hospitality, retail, and events, alongside government officials and media representatives. The meeting underscored the significance of strategic public-private partnerships in solidifying Dubai’s status as a premier global destination for both business and leisure.

The briefing, attended by Helal Saeed Almarri, Director-General of DET, aimed to align stakeholders on strategic initiatives, ensure operational continuity, and expedite the implementation of the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) during a crucial period for the sector. The session provided a detailed overview of the industry, focusing on three main pillars: the coordinated response to regional developments, the resilience of the tourism sector through innovative initiatives, and a forward-looking perspective on significant events and developments shaping Dubai’s future in the latter half of 2026.

Resilience and Competitiveness

Issam Kazim, CEO of the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM), highlighted the robust tourism ecosystem developed under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He noted that this coordinated and agile model, bolstered by strong stakeholder collaboration and a diversified market strategy, has been pivotal for the ongoing resilience of Dubai’s tourism sector. Kazim emphasized that as the sector moves into the latter half of 2026, the focus remains on sustaining long-term growth and enhancing global competitiveness in alignment with the D33 Agenda.

Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), pointed out the critical role of events in driving economic growth. He stated that events are essential for supporting businesses, attracting visitors, and generating year-round demand. Al Khaja remarked that the evolving events strategy continues to set global benchmarks in excellence, diversity, and innovation.

Coordinated Response and Industry Support

Stakeholders were informed about DET’s swift response to regional developments, which included activating contingency frameworks and collaborating closely with aviation partners such as Emirates and flydubai to maintain connectivity. The department also facilitated real-time communication with industry operators through platforms like the Dubai Info Hub, ensuring consistent global messaging that reinforces Dubai’s reputation as a safe and operational destination.

Support measures included targeted financial relief for qualifying businesses and expedited regulatory processes, which helped ensure continuity, protect employment, and maintain high-quality visitor experiences.

Strong Market Performance

Entering 2026, Dubai showcased a strong market position, following record international visitation in 2025, a 6.4 percent GDP growth in Q4 2025, and 95.2 million passengers passing through Dubai International Airport. The sector has demonstrated agility and collaboration, with restaurants launching initiatives to sustain activity and hotels offering competitive rates, value-added packages, and flexible booking policies. Programs such as “Dubai, A Fine Way to Dine” and “Dubai Restaurant Week” have helped maintain momentum in the gastronomy sector, encouraging both residents and visitors to explore diverse dining experiences across the city.

Community Spirit and Industry Collaboration

The resilience of the tourism ecosystem was further reflected in community-driven initiatives and industry collaboration, including partnerships led by chefs and support programs for hospitality workers. Broader community engagement initiatives, such as the “We Love Dubai” campaign, showcased a strong sense of unity and pride among residents.

Looking Ahead: Growth and Investment

The briefing also highlighted ongoing optimism and strategic investments within the sector. Hoteliers are capitalizing on current market conditions to invest in renovations and enhancements, ensuring that they maintain world-class standards. Dubai’s global marketing efforts span over 80 source markets, supported by more than 3,000 international partners to sustain visitor demand and reinforce the city’s global positioning.

Events and Infrastructure Driving Momentum

A robust events calendar is anticipated to play a crucial role in maintaining growth, including the return of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) in July, which will feature retail promotions, entertainment, and dining experiences. Key highlights will include the Great Dubai Summer Sale and Summer Restaurant Week. The Dubai Fitness Challenge will celebrate its 10th edition from October 31 to November 29, further establishing Dubai as a leading destination for lifestyle and wellness tourism.

Infrastructure development continues to support long-term growth, with projects such as the Dubai Metro Gold Line, the upcoming Blue Line, and the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport, which is set to become the world’s largest aviation hub.

Unified Vision for the Future

The City Briefing concluded with a collective commitment among stakeholders in the tourism ecosystem to sustain growth, enhance competitiveness, and advance the objectives of the D33 Agenda, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a leading global destination for tourism, business, and investment.
