Sharjah Waives Toll Fees for Oman Cargo Trucks to Strengthen Logistics Corridor Efficiency
Sharjah: In a significant move to enhance the logistics corridor linking Sharjah’s ports and border crossings with the Sultanate of Oman, the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority, in collaboration with the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, has announced a new facilitation measure. This initiative exempts cargo trucks arriving from Oman and operating within designated logistics corridor routes from toll fees across the Emirate of Sharjah.
The exemption specifically applies to trucks entering through the Khatmat Malaha and Al Madam border crossings, contingent upon compliance with the initiative’s requirements and registration within approved routes. This measure aims to streamline the flow of goods, alleviate operational burdens on businesses, and bolster the overall efficiency of transport and logistics services.
Strategic Advantages of the Khatmat Malaha Border Crossing
The initiative is supported by the geographical and logistical advantages of the Khatmat Malaha border crossing, which is situated approximately 70 kilometers from the Port of Sohar in Oman. This proximity facilitates faster cargo movement and significantly reduces transit times between the two regions.
Additionally, the crossing is integrated into a comprehensive network of major roads that connect it to various ports, free zones, and industrial and commercial areas throughout the UAE. This interconnectedness further enhances supply chain efficiency and ensures the seamless movement of goods across the nation.
Al Madam Border Crossing: A Key Logistics Hub
The Al Madam border crossing is strategically located at the intersection of major transport routes, providing efficient access to both land and maritime transport networks. This facilitates the import, export, and re-export of goods across the region.
Its direct connection to the Wilayat of Mahdha in Oman’s Al Buraimi Governorate further solidifies its role as a vital logistics hub. The significance of this crossing is expected to increase with the ongoing development of the Al Rawdah Economic Zone, which aims to enhance integration between commercial and industrial activities while improving connectivity among regional markets.
Enhancing Supply Chain Resilience
This measure is part of broader efforts to develop a robust logistics corridor ecosystem. It aims to foster resilient and sustainable supply chains while improving trade flows and the movement of goods amid the rapid growth of the regional and global transport and logistics sectors.
The General Administration of Customs and Ports Security at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) emphasized that this facilitation reflects the UAE’s proactive approach to strengthening operational readiness and ensuring supply chain resilience. The initiative is designed to maintain the smooth flow of trade and goods movement between the two nations under various circumstances and market conditions, thereby supporting business continuity and enhancing logistics efficiency across the UAE.
Commitment to Collaboration and Innovation
UAE Customs has reiterated its commitment to ongoing coordination with strategic partners and relevant regional and international entities to develop an integrated ecosystem of services and facilitation measures. This collaboration aims to reinforce supply chain resilience and support global trade flows, showcasing the UAE’s leadership in this domain.
Furthermore, the initiative aligns with the UAE’s vision of transforming challenges into opportunities through innovative solutions that enhance trade and supply chain efficiency. These efforts contribute to solidifying the UAE’s position as a regional and global trade hub, thereby enhancing its economic competitiveness.
The new facilitation measure offers significant operational advantages for companies in the trade, transport, and logistics sectors by reducing costs associated with truck movement, shortening transit times, and improving overall operational efficiency. This, in turn, supports business competitiveness and enhances supply chain efficiency throughout the UAE.
Integrated Services Under the Logistics Corridor Framework
This initiative builds upon an existing package of services and incentives provided by the Authority under the logistics corridor framework. These services include expedited customs procedures and the completion of clearance processes directly at border crossings, which help to shorten transit times, reduce operating costs, and improve overall logistics efficiency.
The initiative highlights the seamless coordination between infrastructure and operational entities across the Emirate of Sharjah, advancing a more responsive and efficient transport and logistics ecosystem. It further reinforces Sharjah’s status as a strategic logistics hub, supporting the competitiveness of the UAE’s trade and transport sectors.
