Seseko and Microsoft South Africa Launch High-Impact Digital Skills Program in 48 Underserved Schools
In a pivotal move to enhance digital inclusion in South Africa, Seseko, in collaboration with Microsoft South Africa, has successfully completed the initial phase of its AI, Robotics, and Coding Program. This initiative has reached 48 underserved schools across all nine provinces, marking a significant step forward in educational equity.
Bridging the Digital Skills Gap
The program introduces students to essential subjects such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and coding—areas that are increasingly shaping the global job market. The United Nations Development Programme (2023) indicates that over 70% of jobs worldwide are projected to require digital skills by 2030. This underscores the necessity of equipping young learners with these competencies at an early stage in their education.
Employing a comprehensive approach, the program extends beyond mere exposure to technology. Participating schools have received robotics kits and learning materials aligned with the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS), facilitating practical, hands-on learning experiences that translate abstract concepts into tangible skills. Additionally, educators have undergone specialized training, with all participating teachers obtaining accreditation from the South African Council for Educators (SACE). This ensures that the skills imparted are sustainably integrated into the educational framework.
