Iran Apologizes to Gulf Neighbors as Drone Attack Hits Dubai Airport, Sparks Explosions in Bahrain and Qatar

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has issued an apology to neighboring countries, asserting that Tehran will only retaliate if attacked from their territory. This statement follows a significant escalation in military tensions, which included a drone strike at Dubai International Airport and subsequent explosions reported in Bahrain and Qatar.

Context of the Apology

Pezeshkian expressed a desire for regional cooperation, stating, “Iran has no hostility toward neighboring countries.” He emphasized that Tehran extends its hand for collaboration to enhance collective security. Notably, this marks the first time Iranian officials have apologized for the series of missile and drone strikes launched towards Gulf states.

In detailing Iran’s military policy, Pezeshkian clarified, “The temporary leadership council has approved that neighboring states will not be targeted unless an attack against Iran comes from their territory.” He also urged neighboring nations to address groups that threaten Iran’s security from within their borders.

Despite this gesture of goodwill, reports of explosions in Bahrain and Qatar emerged shortly after Pezeshkian’s remarks, illuminating the ongoing volatility in the region. The drone attack on Dubai’s airport was captured in dramatic footage that circulated widely on social media.

Airline Operations Impacted

In the wake of the attacks, Emirates Airlines announced a suspension of flights in the United Arab Emirates, with Dubai serving as its main operational hub. This disruption underscores the immediate repercussions of the escalating conflict, affecting both travel and commerce in the region.

Pezeshkian reflected on the internal unity required to confront external threats, saying, “We are grateful to our people, and we must set aside our internal disagreements and defend our country.” He emphasized the importance of Iranian resilience, asserting that surrender is not an option.

Attacks Across the Gulf

Recent military actions by Iran have been extensive, targeting multiple nations in the Gulf region. According to data from the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), Iran has conducted significant assaults on eight different countries, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, and Jordan. The reported numbers of drone and missile attacks are staggering, with specific figures indicating that the UAE faced 1,138 aerial assaults, comprised of drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles.

Bahrain and Qatar also received substantial attacks, and additional incidents occurred in Iraqi Kurdistan and Oman. The cumulative death toll from these confrontations has reached at least 20 individuals, including six Americans.

Pezeshkian’s opening remarks aimed at de-escalation, particularly in light of remarks from U.S. President Donald Trump asserting that no agreements with Iran would be entertained unless it involved complete surrender. In response, Pezeshkian reiterated, “Iran’s surrender is a dream that will never come true. We will remain steadfast until our last breath to bring our country out of this crisis.”

The situation remains fluid as tensions continue to escalate following the drone attack and ongoing military responses throughout the Gulf region.
