Dubai [UAE], May 12 (ANI): Excitement filled the air at the UAE Athletics Women’s Gala 2025, where India’s rising star, Karishma Sanil, clinched the javelin throw title amid fierce competition. This event unfolded at the dynamic Dubai Police Club Stadium on a day celebrated for motherhood—Mother’s Day—making it even more special for the athletes.
Karishma showcased her talent and determination by achieving a remarkable throw of 53.33 meters, topping the three-woman field, with UAE’s Aliazya Tarek and India’s Harshita Sehrawat trailing behind. The victory was a testament to Karishma’s hard work, especially considering her personal best is 55.55m. The Indian national record, however, still stands tall at 63.82m, held by Asian Games champion Annu Rani. This win not only boosts Karishma’s confidence but also brings attention to the burgeoning talent in Indian athletics.
Meanwhile, the long jump event was marked by strong performances from several Indian athletes. Ancy Sojan, the Asian Games silver medallist, leaped to a season’s best of 6.54 meters to secure the second position, while Shaili Singh, an accomplished athlete in her own right, finished third with a leap of 6.48 meters. Notably, the winner of the event was Arab Games champion Esraa Owis, who soared to 6.66 meters, further showcasing the competitive spirit of the gale.
Beyond the podium finishes, both Ancy and Shaili had recently competed in the UAE Grand Prix 2025 where they had also displayed remarkable skills. In that meet, Shaili secured second place with a jump of 6.44 meters, while Ancy followed closely in third with a jump of 6.33 meters. This pattern of consistent performance highlights the ongoing development of these athletes as they pursue their dreams on the global stage.
Other notable performances from the gala included India’s Moumita Monda who secured second in the women’s 200m race with a time of 24.61 seconds, just behind South African athlete Tamzin Thomas, who finished with 24.15 seconds. This swift pace reflects the increasing competitiveness in women’s sprint events, setting the stage for future encounters.
In the triple jump event, India’s Niharika Vashisht shone with a new personal best of 13.58 meters, earning her a third-place finish. This achievement underscores her potential as a serious contender in track and field. Zinzi Xulu from South Africa and Romania’s Andreea Talos claimed the top two spots with jumps of 13.75m and 13.64m respectively, further elevating the standard of competition.
