UAE Skills Platform Unveils Top 4 Job Sectors and 5 Emerging Professions Shaping the Future of Employment
Abu Dhabi: The UAE Skills Platform, initiated by the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Human Resources and Emiratisation, has released a comprehensive analysis of the nation’s labor market. This report outlines the most sought-after specializations, emerging job roles, declining professions, and the highest-paying positions within the UAE.
The findings indicate a significant rise in demand for careers associated with digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and the non-oil economy. This contrasts sharply with the diminishing need for certain traditional roles, largely due to advancements in automation and technology.
Highest-Paying Jobs in the UAE
The Emirates Skills Platform identified four primary sectors with substantial employment opportunities. Business administration leads the way, comprising 20% of job postings. Following this, finance, banking, and insurance account for 8%, with marketing and advertising also at 8%. The hospitality and food service sector represents 6% of job advertisements.
Among the highest-paying positions in the UAE labor market are roles such as CEO, airport CEO, COO, venture capitalist, and heads of higher education institutions.
Jobs in Demand
Currently, the most in-demand roles include accountants, sales managers, restaurant managers, administrative assistants, and civil engineers.
The increasing need for accountants is driven by regulatory compliance, financial reporting, and the growth of cross-border trade, alongside the rapid transition to digital accounting and financial technology.
Sales managers are in demand as businesses seek to enhance revenue, expand digital sales channels, and support the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups that utilize modern sales strategies.
The hospitality sector is also experiencing a surge in demand for restaurant managers, attributed to the growth in tourism and the diversification of the non-oil economy, along with increased trade and travel within GCC countries.
The rise in administrative assistant roles correlates with the diversification of the non-oil economy, the expansion of digital government services, and the growth of tourism and logistics, all of which necessitate enhanced administrative support.
Civil engineers are sought after due to ongoing infrastructure projects, tourism and logistics initiatives, and a shift towards sustainable development.
Emerging Jobs
The report highlights five key emerging professions: data analysts, user experience analysts, operations managers, project managers, and artificial intelligence engineers.
These roles are rapidly growing due to digital transformation, the expansion of smart services, economic diversification, and an increased reliance on data and artificial intelligence.
The demand for data analysts is escalating alongside the growth of digital services and data-driven business models. Similarly, user experience analysts are increasingly necessary due to digital government initiatives and the development of smart services.
The expansion of operations and project management roles is fueled by large-scale infrastructure projects across tourism and logistics, as well as digital transformation programs.
Artificial intelligence engineers are among the fastest-growing professionals, supported by the swift adoption of AI and cloud computing technologies across various sectors.
Jobs in Decline
The platform also noted several professions facing declining demand due to automation and technological advancements. These include ambulance drivers, refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump technicians, debt collectors, oil and gas production managers, and legal administrative assistants.
This decline is primarily due to the increasing reliance on smart technologies, automation, and digital systems, as well as a shift towards renewable energy and enhanced operational efficiency.
Telemedicine and smart emergency systems have diminished the need for some ambulance driver roles. Predictive maintenance technologies have also reduced demand for traditional technical roles in refrigeration and air conditioning.
Automation and artificial intelligence are replacing routine tasks in debt collection and legal administration, leading to a decrease in entry-level positions.
In the oil and gas sector, the growth of renewable energy initiatives and sustainability goals, coupled with automation, has resulted in reduced demand for certain operational and administrative roles.
Highest-Paying Positions
The platform revealed that leadership and executive roles dominate the list of highest-paying jobs, with some monthly salaries reaching AED 163,000 at senior levels.
CEO positions range from AED 60,000 to AED 91,000 for mid-level roles, escalating to AED 150,000 for senior executives, reflecting their strategic leadership responsibilities.
Airport CEOs can earn up to AED 150,000 per month, given their responsibilities for managing operations, safety, commercial performance, and regulatory compliance.
Chief Operating Officers (COOs) earn between AED 60,000 and AED 150,000, depending on their experience, as they oversee daily operations and the execution of company strategies.
Venture capitalists earn between AED 47,000 and AED 72,000 at mid-level, with senior roles reaching up to AED 105,000, reflecting their involvement in evaluating and investing in start-ups.
Heads of higher education institutions earn between AED 64,000 and AED 96,000 at mid-level, rising to AED 163,000 at senior levels, due to their academic, financial, and strategic leadership responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
The platform emphasized the importance of academic and technical qualifications in enhancing employability and career advancement.
A bachelor’s degree is the most sought-after qualification, required in 52% of job advertisements, particularly in IT, engineering, business administration, and finance.
Master’s degrees are the second most common requirement, appearing in 21% of job postings, mainly for leadership and specialized roles in management, data science, AI, healthcare, and finance.
Diplomas and technical certificates account for 18% of roles, particularly in construction, maintenance, aviation, logistics, hospitality, and technical support.
High school qualifications are necessary for 9% of jobs, mainly in retail, customer service, security, hospitality, and administrative support.
