Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation Launches ‘Dubai Archive’ to Strengthen National Heritage and Knowledge Management

Dubai: The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation has officially launched the ‘Dubai Archive’, a national initiative designed to create an advanced system for managing documents and knowledge assets. This strategic project aligns with Dubai’s vision to preserve its historical and cultural heritage while enhancing its readiness for the future.

The initiative was unveiled during a press conference held at the Foundation’s headquarters in Al Jaddaf. It aims to ensure the sustainability of Dubai’s institutional memory, improve government efficiency, and promote digital transformation and knowledge management.

Advancements in Document Management

The ‘Dubai Archive’ represents a significant advancement in document management and archiving systems. It adopts international best practices for the preservation of government, semi-government, and historical records. The project also emphasizes the efficient utilization of both human and technological resources while advancing Dubai’s open data agenda, ensuring the sustainability, accessibility, and effective management of information.

His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Chairman of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation, stated that the initiative signifies a qualitative shift in document and knowledge management. He emphasized that the project transcends traditional archiving frameworks, establishing an integrated system that strengthens Dubai’s institutional memory and supports knowledge sustainability. Al Murr remarked that a document serves not just as an administrative record but as a testament to a period, reflecting decisions and experiences that collectively form a nation’s memory.

Strategic Partnerships and Collaborations

As part of the project’s pilot phase, the Foundation signed five cooperation agreements with key government entities, including Dubai Municipality, Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment, the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, the Digital Dubai Authority, and the Dubai Government Human Resources Department. These agreements aim to enhance institutional integration and unify efforts in archiving and document management.

Additionally, a partnership agreement was established with ONE ECM, the technical partner for ‘Dubai Archive’. This collaboration will focus on developing and operating an advanced document management and archiving system, delivering digital archiving and document processing solutions, and enabling integration across government systems. The goal is to improve the efficiency of document preservation, management, and retrieval in accordance with international standards.

Transforming Knowledge Management

The initiative is poised to drive a fundamental transformation in the management of government and semi-government records by creating an integrated digital archiving infrastructure. This will reinforce Dubai’s position as a global leader in institutional knowledge management. The project aims to unify archiving policies and document management standards while developing a specialized government reference framework based on global best practices.

This approach is expected to enhance governance, transparency, and efficiency, transforming documents and data into strategic assets that support informed decision-making and future planning.

A Vision for a Data-Driven Government

‘Dubai Archive’ reflects Dubai’s vision of a connected, data-driven government where knowledge plays a pivotal role in shaping policies and services. Built on an advanced, AI-supported system, the platform will facilitate efficient document preservation and retrieval, bolster data security, and protect records from loss or damage. Furthermore, it will enhance integration across government and semi-government entities.

The project serves as a comprehensive national platform for preserving Dubai’s administrative, developmental, and cultural history, safeguarding its institutional legacy for future generations. It will also provide reliable knowledge resources for academic research and specialized studies, enabling institutions and decision-makers to utilize historical data when formulating future strategies and public policies.

During the launch event, the Foundation recognized teams and individuals who contributed to the project’s pilot phase, acknowledging their efforts in establishing its foundations and supporting its successful development.
