Dubai Electricity and Water Authority PJSC (DEWA), the sole provider of electricity and water services in Dubai, has announced impressive financial results for the first quarter of 2026. The utility company reported a record revenue of AED 6.45 billion, with an EBITDA of AED 2.88 billion, operating profit of AED 1.29 billion, and a net profit of AED 0.94 billion. These results reflect a nearly 90% increase in net profit compared to the same period last year.

Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman and Managing Director & CEO of DEWA, emphasized the organization’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. He stated that DEWA is guided by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, along with the directives of other key leaders in Dubai. Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s ongoing efforts to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and its crucial role in supporting Dubai’s development.

Al Tayer noted that DEWA’s exceptional start to 2026 is marked by record revenue and profit figures. Clean energy constituted 18.5% of total power generation during the quarter, underscoring the authority’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions. The company also enhanced its water infrastructure, adding 60 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) of desalinated water production capacity, bringing the total to 555 MIGD.

Dividend Policy and Shareholder Returns

In alignment with its dividend policy, DEWA plans to distribute a minimum annual dividend of AED 6.2 billion over the first five years starting from October 2022. The company held its Annual General Assembly on April 2, 2026, and subsequently distributed AED 3.1 billion in dividends for the second half of 2025 on April 20, 2026. A further dividend of AED 3.1 billion for the first half of 2026 is anticipated in October 2026, pending approvals.

Operational Performance Highlights

During Q1 2026, DEWA achieved a total power generation of 11.09 terawatt hours (TWh), reflecting a 5.65% increase compared to the same quarter in 2025. Clean energy generation reached 2.06 TWh, accounting for 18.5% of total production. Additionally, total desalinated water production hit a record 37.57 billion imperial gallons, marking a 5.51% increase.

The number of customer accounts rose by 19,803 during the quarter, with a total increase of 65,086 accounts over the past 12 months, representing an annual growth rate of 5.08%.

Growth and Infrastructure Development

As of the end of Q1 2026, DEWA’s installed power generation capacity reached 17,979 megawatts (MW), including 3,860 MW from clean energy sources, which constitutes 21.5% of the energy mix. The authority also commissioned Unit A of the Hassyan seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant, contributing an additional 60 MIGD to the total desalinated water capacity. Reverse osmosis technology now accounts for 23% of total water production capacity, with plans to add another 120 MIGD in 2026.

During the quarter, DEWA commissioned two 132 kV substations and 400 substations operating at 11–6.6 kV. The number of electric vehicle charging points reached 2,223, including DEWA’s Green Charger stations and those operated by independent entities in collaboration with public and private sector partners.
