How Do Tennis Rankings Work?

The calculation of tennis world rankings is managed by the ATP, which awards points based on players’ performances in sanctioned tournaments. The further a player progresses in an event, the greater the number of points they accumulate. Grand Slam tournaments provide the most substantial rewards, offering 2000 points for the champion and 1200 points for the runner-up. These points are retained for one year before being replaced by any new points earned.

When Are Tennis Rankings Updated?

Both the ATP and WTA regularly update their rankings every Monday, except during Grand Slam events when the updates may vary based on the tournament schedule. Therefore, players and fans can expect consistent weekly updates throughout most of the year, keeping everyone informed about the latest standings.
