Wales has announced a 30% business rates cut for eligible hospitality, accommodation and leisure venues from April 2027, according to BBC News.
Who qualifies for the reduction?
The permanent reduction will cover small and medium-sized businesses with a rateable value below £51,000. It replaces the existing temporary 15% relief for hospitality businesses. Higher rates on the most valuable properties will fund the change, preserving local-authority funding.
Relief amid wider cost pressures
UK Hospitality Cymru welcomed the announcement while warning that VAT, inflation, energy bills and employment costs continue to weigh on operators. The Welsh measure is separate from the announced 20% reduction for pubs, social clubs and live music venues in England.
Correction, 4 October 2026: This article replaces an erroneous review-marker headline and clarifies the Welsh measure, which the earlier version omitted.
