Eid Al Adha in Dubai: Celebrate Faith, Family, and Festivities with Six Days of Events

A significant number of expatriates in the UAE take advantage of the summer public holidays to visit family and friends abroad. However, many residents choose to remain in the Emirates during this time. The upcoming Eid Al Adha holiday, one of the most important occasions in the Islamic calendar, is set to be a six-day celebration in Dubai, offering a blend of cultural and entertainment activities.

This period not only emphasizes religious observance but also transforms the city into a vibrant festive arena where traditional practices meet modern attractions. The festivities cater to both those looking to engage in the spiritual aspects of the holiday and those seeking leisure activities.

Dates To Know

According to Ibrahim Al Jarwan from the Emirates Astronomical Society, Eid Al Adha is expected to commence on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, coinciding with the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah 1447. The official end of the holiday will depend on the moon sighting, as is customary for Islamic festivals. The UAE Cabinet has approved three public holiday days from May 27 to May 29, which, when combined with the weekend, results in a total of six days off.

The UAE Federal Authority for Government Human Resources and the Ministry of Education have announced that public sector employees and students will enjoy a five-day break from May 25 to 29. Additionally, residents can take one day of annual leave on May 25, extending their time off to nine days, from May 23 to May 31. Arafat Day, which holds spiritual significance, falls on May 26.

Eid Al Adha: Faith and Shared Sacrifice

Eid Al Adha, known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. The holiday follows the completion of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. On this day, Muslims across Dubai will gather for early morning prayers at designated prayer grounds and mosques.

A central ritual of Eid Al Adha is the ‘udhiyah,’ or symbolic sacrifice of livestock. The Dubai Municipality has encouraged residents to utilize smart applications for managing these religious practices, streamlining the slaughter and distribution of meat to those in need. Children traditionally receive Eidiyah, small gifts or cash from elders, fostering a sense of joy and tradition.

This charitable act ensures that every community member can partake in the festive meals, creating a sense of belonging, especially for those unable to travel home. Neighbors often come together to share meals and set aside past grievances, reinforcing community bonds.

Traditional Heritage and Greetings

For an authentic cultural experience, the historic Creek area serves as a focal point during Eid Al Adha. Families dressed in traditional attire fill the narrow streets of Deira and Bur Dubai, while the scent of oud and incense wafts through the souqs.

The Jumeirah Mosque and the Diwan Mosque offer serene environments for reflection on the festival’s first morning. Live cultural performances by Emirati musicians are scheduled across public spaces like Al Seef, providing a rhythmic backdrop to the celebrations and allowing residents to engage with the customs of their host country.

Eid Al Adha: Fireworks and Landmarks

Dubai’s skyline remains a highlight during the holiday, with fireworks displays scheduled to light up the sky in synchrony with music and colors. Major firework shows will occur in Downtown Dubai, Bluewaters Island, and The Beach at JBR, between 9 PM and 9:30 PM.

The Dubai Fountain and Burj Khalifa will serve as stunning backdrops for nighttime entertainment. The Global Village has extended its season until May 31, offering reduced ticket prices, while the Miracle Garden will remain open until the end of the month, providing a final chance to visit before its seasonal closure.

Many iconic landmarks will have extended hours during the public holiday, allowing visitors to experience the contrast between Dubai’s rich history and modernity.

Live Entertainment for Eid Al Adha

The entertainment lineup for Eid 2026 is particularly noteworthy. Renowned Arabic artist Majid Al Mohandis will perform at the Coca-Cola Arena on May 29, while the Dubai Opera will host Adam of Ala Bali and Khelset El Hekaya on May 28. International artists, including DJ Kurd Maverick and Mr. Singh, are also set to perform.

The Kingdom of Ellera will present a family-oriented show at the Theatre by QE2, while IMG Worlds of Adventure is offering discounts of up to 50% during the Eid week, making it an affordable option for family entertainment.

Premium Staycations and Deals

The hospitality sector is rolling out attractive staycation offers for residents who choose to remain in Dubai during the holiday. Reports indicate that several hotels are providing special long weekend packages. Rove Hotels is offering affordable city options, while Palazzo Versace Dubai’s Giardino features exquisite dinner buffets starting at AED 263 per person.

Palm Jumeirah remains a popular family destination, with resorts like Fairmont The Palm and Taj Exotica providing complimentary dining and resort credits for children. These offers present an excellent opportunity for residents to enjoy a luxurious vacation experience at home.

Eid Al Adha: Festive Remembrance

Spending time in the UAE during Eid Al Adha presents a unique opportunity to experience the nation’s hospitality. The blend of spectacular fireworks, rich cultural narratives, and diverse entertainment options caters to a wide range of preferences.

Dubai successfully balances luxury with traditional values, allowing residents to enjoy high-end staycations while also participating in communal prayers at local mosques. As the public holiday approaches, residents are encouraged to plan their local activities to fully embrace the festive spirit that meets both spiritual and social needs.
