The UAE and Ghana have signed a landmark agreement to establish the first economic zone and digital incubator in Accra.

The recent partnership between the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) and the Ghanaian government marks a significant milestone in West Africa’s technological and economic landscape. This collaboration is aimed at transforming Ghana into a regional technology powerhouse that not only attracts investments but also provides a robust platform for innovation and growth.

As part of this initiative, a substantial area of 25 square kilometers in Accra has been designated for the development of the economic zone. This zone is envisioned to be a melting pot of global technology firms and innovative enterprises, under the skilled guidance of PCFC. By spearheading the zone’s operations, PCFC intends to facilitate investment, stimulate business expansion, and position the region as a hub for technological advancement.

During the signing ceremony, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of PCFC, expressed his enthusiasm and commitment to supporting the UAE’s global outreach. He highlighted Dubai’s pioneering experience in innovation and economic development, which will be instrumental in developing this smart economic zone. “This smart economic zone, combining innovation, technology, and logistics, will foster commercial growth and strengthen Ghana’s industrial and technological infrastructure,” he emphasized.

Similarly, Samuel Nartey George, the Ghanaian Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, articulated the potential impact of this partnership on Ghana’s economic positioning. He affirmed that the zone would play a pivotal role in attracting global businesses and talent, thus transforming Accra into a competitive and appealing destination on the international stage. His vision underscores the importance of creating an environment conducive to technology and innovation in the region.

Furthermore, dedicated teams from both nations, specializing in artificial intelligence and investment, will collaboratively manage this economic zone. This symbiosis is designed to foster business growth, stimulate regional connectivity, and drive innovation. By engaging local communities and traders, the partnership aims to create a space that empowers these stakeholders, ensuring that the benefits of economic progress are inclusive and sustainable. The initiative is set to pave the way for comprehensive development across the continent, enhancing the socio-economic fabric of Ghana and beyond.
