Dubai: The United Arab Emirates has secured the top position among Arab nations in the 2026 Environmental Performance Index (EPI), reflecting the effectiveness of its comprehensive and integrated approach to climate action, ecosystem vitality, and environmental health. This ranking highlights the UAE’s commitment to sustainability and its proactive measures in addressing environmental challenges.

The 2026 EPI assesses countries based on 47 performance indicators categorized into 12 distinct issue areas. These indicators align with three primary policy objectives: Environmental Health, Ecosystem Vitality, and Climate Change. The nation also recorded an EPI score of 94.99% in wastewater treatment, placing it 19th globally.
In terms of marine biodiversity, the UAE ranked first in the region and ninth globally for the protection of marine Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs). The UAE also secured the second position in the region for marine habitat protection, reinforcing its commitment to preserving its natural marine environment.
