New Mosques in Abu Dhabi Honor UAE’s Emirates

In a significant move to celebrate the 54th Eid Al Etihad, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has initiated the naming of seven mosques in Abu Dhabi after each of the Emirates that comprise the United Arab Emirates. This decision highlights the nation’s commitment to cultural and spiritual unity, reinforcing the enduring values that bind the Emirates together.

A Tribute to Unity

His Excellency Dr. Omar Habtoor Al Darei, who serves as the Chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Zakat, has expressed sincere appreciation for this initiative. He emphasized that the directive from the President is not only a tribute to the Emirates but also a way to instill a sense of pride and community spirit among future generations. This move encourages them to cherish the UAE’s legacy of generosity and advancement.

Strategic Planning and Coordination

As part of this initiative, the seven mosques will be located in Mohamed bin Zayed City, Abu Dhabi. Community planning has been a collaborative effort involving several key institutions, including the Presidential Court, the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, and the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi. Together, they have driven this project to fruition, ensuring that the mosques are set to open their doors to worshippers in January of next year.

Capacity and Design Features

Each mosque is designed to accommodate approximately 6,000 worshippers, demonstrating a strong commitment to meet the spiritual needs of the community. Spanning a total area of around 12,000 square meters, these mosques will not only serve as places for prayer but also as centers for community gathering and connection.

Dr. Al Darei noted that the architectural design of the mosques beautifully merges Islamic art and heritage with modern technology. This thoughtful blend is aimed at creating spaces that are not only functional but also reflective of the cultural identity of the UAE.

A Commitment to Community Service

Dr. Al Darei further acknowledged the ongoing support from His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for various initiatives taken by the Authority. He highlighted the importance of developing mosques that prioritize the comfort and tranquility of worshippers while affirming the mosque’s vital role in fostering community ties and religious devotion.
