Tribe Payments Expands with New Office in Dubai

Strategic Growth in the Middle East

Tribe Payments, a leading fintech company specializing in issuer and acquirer processing, has announced the opening of its new office in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). This expansion comes less than a year after the company established its Asia-Pacific (APAC) headquarters in Singapore, marking a significant step in Tribe’s strategic growth within the Middle Eastern market.

A Strong Foundation

Founded in London in 2018, Tribe Payments has quickly grown to employ over 200 professionals across Europe, with key technology hubs located in Kaunas, Lithuania, and Singapore. The decision to open a Dubai office underscores Tribe’s commitment to empowering banks, fintechs, and acquirers not just in Europe and Asia, but now in the Middle East as well.

Leadership with Expertise

At the helm of Tribe’s Middle Eastern operations is Aurangzaib Khan, a seasoned veteran in the payments industry. Khan brings two decades of experience to the role, having previously worked with major players such as Amazon Payments Services, Mastercard, and Visa. His extensive background includes leading the launch of Bahrain’s first open banking super-app, Beyon Money, which positions him well to drive Tribe’s initiatives in the region.

Aurangzaib Khan’s Vision

Khan expressed his enthusiasm for leading Tribe’s operations in Dubai, stating, “I’m eager to embark on this opportunity to drive innovation in the payments industry. It’s hugely exciting to be entrusted to lead Tribe’s operations in Dubai and the Middle East. The region aspires to be at the forefront of banking and payments technology, and Tribe’s unique proposition means we are well positioned to enable banks to achieve their goals.”

Unique Market Position

Tribe Payments stands out as Europe’s only processor collaborating with major card networks such as Mastercard, Visa, American Express, UnionPay International, Discover, and JCB. This unique position allows Tribe to offer unparalleled global connectivity through a single integration, making it an attractive option for businesses looking to streamline their payment processing.

Commitment to the Region

Andrew Hocking, CEO of Tribe Payments, emphasized the importance of having a physical presence in the UAE. “Having lived and worked in the UAE for many years prior to joining Tribe Payments, the country is the clear beating heart of the Middle Eastern fintech scene. I also know firsthand the importance of being on-site; this shows a real sense of commitment from Tribe to the region,” he noted.

Hocking further highlighted the value of Khan’s leadership, stating, “His leadership and payments knowledge – both at a regional and global level – will be invaluable to Tribe as we embark on our next strategic expansion. We’ve learned a lot from our first 12 months in Singapore, and we’re excited to spread our wings to a new region.”

Future Prospects

As Tribe Payments establishes its presence in Dubai, the company aims to cultivate new partnerships while maintaining existing relationships in the Middle East. The firm’s cloud-based, modular platform is designed to empower users with exceptional scalability and flexibility, positioning Tribe as a key player in the evolving fintech landscape.

With its strategic expansion into Dubai, Tribe Payments is set to make a significant impact on the Middle Eastern payments ecosystem, driving innovation and enhancing the capabilities of banks and fintechs in the region.
