Canon Hong Kong Celebrates 15th Annual Ink Cartridge Recycling Awards, Strengthening Environmental Education Initiatives
HONG KONG SAR – 10 July 2026 – Canon Hongkong Company Limited (Canon Hong Kong) hosted the 15th Canon x McDull Inter-school Ink Cartridge Recycling Award Presentation Ceremony on 4 July 2026 at Canon Image Square. This event recognized schools for their exemplary efforts in ink cartridge recycling, highlighting the importance of environmental stewardship among the youth.
Celebrating Environmental Achievements
The ceremony acknowledged the achievements of eight schools that excelled in the category of “Highest Number of Recycled Ink Cartridges.” Ms. Candy Mau, Director of Corporate Communications and General Administration Division at Canon Hong Kong, commended the schools for their commitment to promoting recycling. She emphasized the urgent need to address global warming and climate change, urging collective action to protect the environment.
Since its inception in 2009, Canon Hong Kong’s Ink Cartridge Recycling Program has made significant strides in fostering environmental awareness. The program, which features the beloved local cartoon character McDull as its ambassador, expanded into the education sector in 2011, inviting primary and secondary schools to participate in the annual competition. Over the past 15 years, the initiative has garnered support from more than 300 organizations, including housing estates, shopping malls, and schools, all contributing to the establishment of recycling boxes for used inkjet printer cartridges.
Engaging the Next Generation
To deepen students’ understanding of environmental issues, Canon Hong Kong has organized over 230 environmental seminars, reaching more than 70,000 students with messages about recycling and sustainable development. As of June 2026, the program has successfully collected over 295,000 ink cartridges, which are dismantled and recycled into raw materials for other products.
In addition to the awards ceremony, Canon Hong Kong hosted a “Build Your Own Camera” STEAM parent-child workshop. This interactive session allowed students and parents to assemble handcrafted camera models, providing insights into basic optical principles and the science behind imaging. Participants engaged in hands-on demonstrations, enhancing their understanding of creativity, technology, and photography.
