Bihar Government Calls for CBI Inquiry into NEET Aspirant’s Death
The tragic death of a female NEET aspirant in Patna has prompted significant attention, leading the Bihar government to recommend a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe. This decision was announced by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Saturday.
Investigation Underway by Special Investigation Team
Currently, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) established by the Bihar police is actively looking into the circumstances surrounding the deceased’s untimely passing. The young woman, originally from Jehanabad, was discovered unconscious in her hostel room located in Chitragupt Nagar, Patna, earlier this month. After several days in a coma, she sadly succumbed to her condition at a private hospital on January 11.
Allegations of Assault and Family Concerns
In the aftermath of her death, the victim’s family has raised serious allegations, claiming that she was sexually assaulted. They further accused local authorities of attempting to obscure the truth surrounding her death. Deputy Chief Minister Choudhary has stated that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has urged the Indian government to take over the investigation into what has been labeled as a murder case (Case No- 14/26). Choudhary emphasized the need for a transparent and thorough inquiry to bring clarity to the situation.
Tensions Between Family and Police Findings
The parents of the young aspirant have expressed deep concern over the state police’s approach to the case. They accuse law enforcement of trying to suppress evidence, alleging that the police are denying the possibility of sexual assault and instead asserting that the death was a suicide. This stark contradiction raises troubling questions.
Post-Mortem Findings and Police Statements
Remarkably, the post-mortem report did not rule out the possibility of sexual violence, casting doubt on the police’s initial claims. Officials had previously stated that their investigation was bolstered by medical reports and CCTV footage, which allegedly contradicted allegations of sexual assault. Meanwhile, an employee from the hostel where the victim stayed has already been arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation.
Moving Forward
With the involvement of the CBI in the forthcoming inquiry, there is hope among the victim’s family and supporters that justice will be served. The case has amplified discussions around safety for students in educational institutions, particularly in light of allegations that highlight significant lapses in care and oversight.
As more details emerge, the need for accountability, transparency, and justice becomes ever more pressing in this heart-wrenching situation. The Bihar government’s decision to push for a CBI investigation could ultimately shed light on the truth surrounding this tragic event.
