Samson Sky CEO Speaks at Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport

DUBAI, UAE, Sept. 30, 2025 – The Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport recently brought together some of the globe’s most influential leaders in autonomous technology and future mobility at the iconic Dubai World Trade Centre. Renowned for its commitment to futuristic innovations, Dubai aims to be a trailblazer in urban mobility, and flying cars are a key part of that vision.

Among the impressive lineup of speakers was Sam Bousfield, CEO of Samson Sky and the designer behind the Switchblade Flying Sports Car. This event, attracting around 6,000 attendees, featured over 85 decision-makers from leading companies like Volkswagen, Porsche, McLaren, Volvo, Ford, Uber, Joby, Stellantis, and Samson Sky. Together, they explored how cities of the future will move, blending self-driving technology and integrated transport systems.

Bousfield captivated the audience by sharing his forward-thinking vision for autonomous regional travel, combining both driving and flying capabilities. His focus was on the Switchblade—a highway-capable, hybrid electric flying sports car designed to redefine travel for distances between 250 to 500 miles (approximately 300 to 800 kilometers). With production slated to begin by late 2026, Samson Sky is actively integrating advanced AI into the Switchblade’s cockpit to simplify flying in busy airspace and prepare for future autonomous operation.

What makes the Switchblade particularly exciting is how it addresses the needs of millions of regional travelers, especially in the U.S., where 21 million people regularly travel such distances for business or leisure. Bousfield outlined several benefits of choosing the Switchblade over traditional options like commercial flights or road trips. Key advantages include significantly reduced travel time, increased time spent at destinations, door-to-door convenience without ever leaving the comfort of your vehicle, travel flexibility on your own schedule, and the dual freedom to both drive and fly whenever and wherever you want.

The Switchblade isn’t just a concept; it’s a practical, high-performance machine tailored for the future. With the ability to switch seamlessly from road to air, its wings unfold, and its tail extends with the push of a button, transforming it from a sleek sports car to a ready-to-fly aircraft. It seats two passengers with luggage space, can cover up to 500 miles (805 kilometers) on a tank of premium auto gas, and cruises at speeds around 160 mph (257 km/h).

Bousfield expressed his honor in joining the ranks of autonomous vehicle pioneers and praised Dubai’s welcoming stance toward innovative technology. He anticipates the Switchblade Limited Edition will attract considerable interest in Dubai and the broader Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

It’s worth noting that the Switchblade falls under the Experimental category of aircraft. As such, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) does not certify these aircraft in the traditional manner reserved for factory-produced models.
