Published:

The Ripe Market has officially reopened for its 15th season at the Dubai Police Academy Park in Umm Suqeim, offering a vibrant platform for local businesses and community engagement. The market, which began as a series of pop-up events, has become a staple for residents, drawing an average of 8,000 to 10,000 visitors each weekend.

Lisa Kay McGrath, Head of Markets, shared insights during an interview on Dubai Eye 103.8’s Business Breakfast show, highlighting the market’s evolution since it found its permanent home at the academy in 2019. “It’s a great place for you to come and shop local, shop from homegrown brands here in the UAE,” she stated, emphasizing the market’s commitment to supporting small businesses.

A Hub for Local Vendors and Activities

This season, visitors can expect a diverse range of offerings, including local organic produce, artisanal foods, and handmade crafts. The market also features live music, craft workshops, and free morning yoga and pilates classes, catering to various interests and promoting wellness within the community. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy facilities for padel, tennis, and football, while children can partake in activities such as a petting zoo, horse riding, and trampolines.

McGrath noted the significant impact of the market on small businesses, citing the success of brands like Home Bakery, which started at the market and has since expanded. The community’s support over the past months has been crucial, and McGrath hopes this momentum will continue throughout the season.

Community Engagement and Future Prospects

While pets are not allowed at the market, attendees can enjoy Dubai Police dog shows scheduled throughout the season. Businesses interested in participating can apply via the Ripe Market’s website or Instagram, further fostering local entrepreneurship.

The Ripe Market not only serves as a shopping destination but also as a community gathering space, reinforcing the importance of supporting local businesses in the UAE. As the season unfolds, it promises to be a vibrant hub for residents and visitors alike, celebrating the spirit of local commerce and community engagement.
