### Ras Al Khaimah Welcomes 2026 with a Dazzling Aerial Display
Ras Al Khaimah launched into 2026 with an extraordinary 15-minute New Year’s Eve celebration, featuring a breathtaking spectacle of drones and fireworks. The event achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest aerial formation of a phoenix crafted from multirotor drones.
### A Night Sky Transformed
The highlight of the festivities occurred as the sky transformed into a vibrant canvas, thanks to a meticulously choreographed drone performance. Over the picturesque waterfront of the emirate, 2,300 drones took flight, creating animated shapes that captivated thousands of onlookers. The standout moment of the night was the record-breaking phoenix, a symbol of renewal and rebirth, designed using 1,000 pyro drones. These drones illuminated the mythical bird’s wings, crafting a stunning flame-like effect as it appeared to soar majestically through the night.
### Symbolism of Welcome and Openness
In addition to the impressive phoenix, the drone sequence included another noteworthy formation titled “The Welcome.” This display depicted a human figure rising from the sea with open arms, embodying the spirit of hospitality and openness that Ras Al Khaimah prides itself on. This artistic expression aimed to resonate with both locals and visitors, reinforcing the welcoming atmosphere of the emirate.
### A Coordinated Countdown to Midnight
As the clock drew closer to midnight, the drone performance seamlessly transitioned into an intricately timed fireworks countdown. Stretching six kilometers along the coastline, the fireworks display was a spectacular sight, starting from Marjan Island and reaching Al Hamra. Hundreds of fireworks burst into the sky in synchronized waves, creating a choreographed visual and auditory experience that illuminated the shoreline and thrilled the gathered crowds.
### Community Engagement and Entertainment
The celebrations attracted thousands of residents and visitors, who flocked to beachfront resorts and the New Year’s Eve Festival to witness the festivities. The atmosphere was electric, complemented by live stage performances and entertainment throughout the night. Earlier in the evening, families enjoyed additional fireworks at Corniche Al Qawasim, setting a joyful tone for the welcoming of the new year.
### Reflections on Progress
Phillipa Harrison, CEO of the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, articulated the purpose behind the celebration. “New Year’s Eve in Ras Al Khaimah is about bringing people together,” she stated. Harrison emphasized that this year’s show was crafted to foster a sense of community, encouraging both locals and visitors to come together and celebrate at this significant time.
Harrison also noted that the event provided a moment to reflect on the emirate’s advancements in the past year while fostering optimism for the year ahead. The spectacle was not just a celebration of the new year, but also a tribute to the growth and development of Ras Al Khaimah.
