Qatar welcomes 2.614 million visitors in first nine months of 2026, driven by GCC tourism

Published:

Qatar welcomed 2.614 million visitors in the first nine months of 2026, marking a notable increase in tourism driven primarily by travelers from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. This figure represents a significant milestone for Qatar Tourism, which reported a 1.1 percent year-on-year rise in visitor numbers for September alone, reaching 276,000.

GCC Visitors Lead the Surge

According to Qatar Tourism, GCC nations accounted for 40.9 percent of total visitors, translating to approximately 1.069 million arrivals from the region. This influx underscores the importance of regional tourism, particularly as Qatar continues to enhance its appeal as a travel destination. Following the GCC, visitors from Asia and Oceania made up 21 percent of the total, with 548,000 arrivals, while Europe contributed 20.6 percent, totaling 538,000 visitors. The Americas and other Arab countries accounted for 7.3 percent and 7 percent, respectively, with 190,000 and 184,000 visitors.

Domestic Tourism on the Rise

In the first quarter of 2026, Qatar recorded 1.13 million visitors, with January alone seeing 646,000 arrivals. The tourism sector is poised for further growth in the latter half of the year, bolstered by a series of promotional events and programs aimed at attracting both local and international tourists. Ayman Al Qudwa, a tourism expert, noted that Doha has solidified its status as the Gulf’s leading tourism capital, appealing to citizens, residents, and international travelers alike.

Al Qudwa attributes this success to Qatar’s comprehensive tourism ecosystem, which includes easy access, diverse offerings, and advanced infrastructure. He emphasized the role of Hamad International Airport, which connects Doha to over 190 global destinations and supports more than 35 international airlines. Qatar Airways also plays a crucial role, facilitating inbound tourism with its extensive network of over 160 destinations and more than 140 daily flights.

As Qatar continues to develop its integrated tourism model, combining entertainment, hospitality, and economic value, domestic tourism is expected to thrive, making it an increasingly attractive option for families and visitors. This growth is anticipated to support a robust recovery in tourism activities as the year progresses.
