today announces a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). This partnership aims to roll out its advanced fleet of robotaxis in one of the world’s most dynamic urban centers, signaling a major step forward in autonomous driving technology.
Mr. Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of the Public Transport Agency at RTA, emphasized the importance of this collaboration: “The partnership with Pony.ai marks another significant milestone in advancing Dubai’s Self-Driving Transport Strategy. Our goal is to transform 25% of all journeys in the city into autonomous trips by 2030.” This initiative further establishes Dubai as a global hub for autonomous mobility and technological innovation.
Dr. Leo Wang, CFO of Pony.ai, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, “Dubai is at the forefront of intelligent urban mobility innovation, and we are honored to partner with RTA. Together, we are committed to accelerating Dubai’s transition to autonomous transportation by leveraging our advanced technology and extensive experience.”
This collaboration aligns seamlessly with Dubai’s 2030 Smart City Vision, which targets transitioning 25% of transportation modes to autonomous systems by the year 2030. The initiative will commence with a multi-phase rollout that includes supervised trials beginning in 2025 and fully driverless operations anticipated in 2026.
Pony.ai is also gearing up for mass production and deployment of its seventh-generation robotaxis, expected to launch in the latter half of 2025. This venture aims to set the groundwork for the company’s expansion across global markets.
The company has plans to scale its robotaxi fleet to thousands of vehicles over the next two years, with 2025 marking the year of large-scale commercial deployment. This ambitious timeline is supported by advancements in technology, vehicle engineering, and operational capabilities.
The seventh-generation autonomous driving system from Pony.ai, recently unveiled at Auto Shanghai 2025, highlights the company’s commitment to innovation. The advanced hardware suite achieves a 70% reduction in Bill of Materials (BOM) cost while complying with stringent automotive standards. Its sophisticated sensor array is designed to comprehend complex situations, whether high-speed highways or densely populated urban areas like Dubai’s bustling business districts.
In collaboration with industry leaders such as Toyota, GAC Motor, and BAIC Motor, Pony.ai is developing its seventh-generation robotaxis, with mass deployment planned following successful trials in Shanghai earlier this year.
Pony.ai has established a comprehensive operational framework for its robotaxi services, incorporating fully automated processes from vehicle dispatch to service completion. Having pioneered fully driverless ride-hailing services in major cities across China, the fleet of around 300 robotaxis currently operates in vital locations like Beijing and Guangzhou, adeptly navigating complex urban environments.
“Our extensive experience in robotaxi operations in China has prepared us well for this venture in Dubai,” said Leo Wang, adding that the aim is to provide residents and visitors with a driverless technology that is not only safer but also enhances the overall convenience of navigating through the city.
Looking ahead, Pony.ai plans to integrate its robotaxi services with Dubai’s multimodal transport network, which includes metro, tram, and maritime routes. This holistic approach aims to create a seamless transportation ecosystem where autonomous vehicles complement existing infrastructure, ultimately aiming to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the city.
To date, Pony.ai has secured testing permits for its robotaxi operations in four major markets, including the United States, China, South Korea, and Luxembourg. The partnership with Dubai marks a significant milestone in the company’s expansion strategy within the Middle East.
