Pittsburgh Schools Announce Delays and Closures on March 17 Amid Winter Weather Advisory

Several school districts in the Pittsburgh area have declared delays and closures for Tuesday, March 17, 2026, due to severe winter weather affecting western Pennsylvania. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter weather advisory for parts of western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and the West Virginia panhandle, indicating that some regions may receive between one to three inches of snow accompanied by strong winds.

The NWS cautioned residents to “plan on slippery road conditions,” noting that hazardous conditions will significantly impact both morning and evening commutes.

Weather Advisory Explained

The winter weather advisory for Pittsburgh is in effect until 4 AM, while areas at higher elevations will remain under an extended advisory until 5 PM on Tuesday. According to the NWS, the region could experience wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour. Daytime temperatures are projected to hover in the mid-20s, with morning lows in the low 20s. Wind chills may drop to around 10 degrees.

As additional winter weather is anticipated, many customers of Duquesne Light are still without power following strong winds that downed trees and power lines last Friday.
