New Year’s Eve Weather Alert: Rain, Strong Winds, and Rough Seas in the UAE

Date:

Unsettled Weather Expected for UAE This New Year’s Eve

As the UAE approaches New Year’s Eve, the National Centre of Meteorology has issued warnings regarding unstable weather conditions. With predictions of scattered rainfall, cooler temperatures, and strong winds, residents should prepare for a variety of weather challenges.

Forecast for New Year’s Eve

Meteorologists anticipate a significant cooling trend on New Year’s Eve, resulting in fair to partly cloudy skies. Areas along the coast and select islands may experience periods of low cloud cover. Additionally, increased humidity levels overnight could lead to the formation of light fog or mist, particularly in some inland regions by Thursday morning.

Temperature Drops and Visibility Issues

This current weather pattern has already caused noticeable temperature declines across the northern and eastern regions. Visibility has also been affected, with reduced clarity being reported. Strong north-westerly winds are contributing to elevated dust and sand levels, reaching speeds of up to 40 kilometers per hour, occasionally intensifying.

Marine Conditions: Safety First

For those planning to head out to sea, conditions are expected to remain rough to very rough through New Year’s Eve. Wave heights are already significant, measuring up to six feet in the Sea of Oman, and are projected to increase to approximately seven feet in the Arabian Gulf by Wednesday evening. The NCM has strongly advised residents and maritime enthusiasts to exercise caution during these hazardous sea conditions, recommending that swimming, diving, and other marine activities be suspended until conditions improve.

A Glimpse at Thursday’s Weather

Looking ahead to Thursday, forecasts indicate a slight stabilization in weather conditions. Skies are expected to remain fair to partly cloudy, with lighter winds compared to the previous days. However, high humidity levels are likely to persist overnight, sustaining the potential for fog or mist, particularly in coastal and inland areas.

Friday’s Outlook: Fluctuating Conditions

By Friday, residents can expect continued fair to partly cloudy weather, accompanied by a slight increase in temperatures. Wind speeds will be light to moderate and may occasionally refresh. However, those interested in marine activities should stay vigilant, as conditions in the Arabian Gulf are projected to become rough once again by nightfall.

Safety Reminders for Residents

Given the unpredictable weather, the National Centre of Meteorology is urging all individuals, especially those engaging in outdoor or marine activities, to remain cautious. Monitoring weather updates and heeding safety warnings will be crucial during this period of unsettled weather.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed and take appropriate precautions as the UAE transitions into the New Year with weather conditions that may pose challenges.
